Description

Water leaking from street, noticed it for several days and a pothole is forming. Water is brown, maybe sewage.

Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner. The backlog of streets in Oakland needing pavement currently is $435 million and growing.

This is not just a pothole. There is water coming out of it and it's getting worse. Brown water has been coming out for at least 2 weeks. When I walked by yesterday, there was a sewage smell. EBMUD said they tested the water and confirmed it's contaminated with sewage. People and their pets walk through this intersection! The water runs right through the crosswalk. It's disgusting and it's dangerous. This is a violation of health and safety codes, not just a pothole (though potholes are also violations of safety code...) EBMUD and the city of Oakland need to stop playing games and blaming each other and fix it before someone gets sick or hurt, or a sinkhole forms and causes property damage or worse.

Okay, so how many people need to call (and how many times) before someone comes out to fix it or at least put cones around it so cars stop driving over it and people stop walking through sewer water?

Seriously! It's been 3 weeks now. And there was an Oakland sewer dept. truck on 19th avenue on Monday, but they stopped and parked in middle of 19th ave. and E. 27th street. Did they get the street wrong?? I'm calling KTVU news investigates today. This is ridiculous.

tO THE CITY of OAKLAND CALL CENTER OFFICIAL: I have called 311 several times!!! I even got a call back from a 311 person who left me a message claiming it was an EBMUD problem. Don't give directions to do something that doesn't get any results!! the city is NOT doing it's job. You guys don't even answer 311 half the time. ON weekends if you press 1 for a sewer matter, the phone just keeps ringing until an emergency dispatchere picks up! How can you even post to call 311 when doing so results in no help at all??

Because that is how they answer most Seeclickfix requests unless it is dumping on public property. Anything else you get the run around and told to call other departments.
