The cars are driving the wrong way on a one way street to avoid the inconvenience of driving round the block. That's clearly illegal. It's not just about kids safety either, cars driving down that street are not expecting to have to contend with on-coming traffic as they exit the street onto Foster. Just because it takes a little effort to follow the laws doesn't mean you shouldn't.

It's more than just crossing the street. These cars are pulling into driveways which means THEY are crossing SIDEWALKS and coming from an unexpected direction!!

i've seen this done too. i thought at the time that it was someone unfamiliar with the neighborhood.

the residents themselves just being lazy is unacceptable. this is such a heavilly used stretch of orange street by pedestrians and cyclists. maybe this issue should be printed out and left in their mailboxes so that they are aware that it affects the neighborhood so negatively?

Ted, how long has it been since you took a driving lesson? If the street is one way, and someone drives on the street going the wrong way, then yes it is not only wrong, but illegal.

I've seen drivers doing this too - some of them seem totally clueless. Does anyone know why this street is one-way? What's the point?

People who knowingly drive the wrong way down a one way street should be ashamed of themselves! Will this really get fixed if enough people vote?

Are you referring to the guy, with the white Honda station wagon, with the chrome "BAD" emblem on the back [of the car], who drives around with the volume turned up way too loud?, because that noise is really rude.

you probably should go and speak with the folks who are driving the wrong way down your street. it would be more productive than venting on this site.

The street is too narrow for parking on both sides and two-way traffic. In the winter it's worse. And for most residents parking on the street is the only option.

My understanding is that this site exists for the purpose of getting action not just venting.

I have a constructive idea: Reverse the one-way direction and there won't be a problem. And (for real) NHPD enforce noise laws on those 'white Honda station wagons with the chrome BAD emblem' becuase there are a hundreds of them in New Haven. I, for one, am sick of it.

Ted, I'm also confused. You want to cater to the minority that is breaking the law and screw up the majority who follow it?

This is an important safety problem that needs to be fixed. Why wait until there is an accident or someone gets hurt? It needs to be fixed now!
