Boucher Ave. is in very poor condition and needs resurfacing along its entire length. That is the number one priority. In addition it is a good opportunity to correct the ridiculous traffic calming island at the intersection of Boucher Ave. and Jefferson Street. Several years ago the community requested that something be done to slow down the traffic on Boucher Ave. Stop signs were installed at Adam Street and have been successful in slowing traffic in that location. Many in the community wanted stop signs also installed at the intersection of Jefferson St. and Boucher Ave. Instead the City installed a traffic calming island which is very ineffective in slowing traffic. Instead the traffic calming island directs cars that are traveling at high speeds into the sidewalks where people are walking rather than slowing them down. A three-way stop sign would be effective in slowing traffic. Will everyone stop and obey the signs -No, but at least it will slow down the traffic.
