Description
There is a speed enforcement issue on NE Seabold Rd, leading to Henderson. Commuters avoiding 305, driving through neighborhood and disregarding residential speed limit, thereby posing a safety hazard to walkers on road and small children waiting for bus stop. An increased police presence would help to alleviate problem between hours 7am-9am on weekdays.

Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns. I’ve initiated a Traffic Emphasis Request based on the information you provided so officers can pay special attention to that area when they are able. In general, officers only have the opportunity to focus on speeding or distracted drivers when there are no urgent calls pending, but they do what they can. Someone from our department will follow up with you in about 30 days to discuss the results of our efforts.
In the meantime, you may also want to contact Chris Hammer, the City’s Engineering Manager. He’s the person to start with if you are interested in pursuing long-term solutions such as revisions to road signage, accessibility, or changes to the speed limits. Perhaps there are permanent traffic solutions that are worth further consideration. Chris’s email is chammer@bainbridgewa.gov

I contacted the city engineer and below is part of the response:
“The 2012 traffic counts show that on an average day 413 cars use Seabold Road and that 85% of drivers are operating at 22mph or lower.
The roadway is classified as a collector street from SR305 to Komedal. The speed limit and warning signage is appropriate for the roadway.”
My thinking is that the speed survey is a little outdated, and that another one would be helpful considering the exponential growth of Amazon and greater Seattle region in past five years. The city multi-modal transportation advisory committee meeting convenes the second Wednesday of each month. Might be a suitable venue to create a record of this issue and advocate for speed bumps, or other speed reduction mechanism.
