Add "speed bumps" on this road to slow traffic.

This would be a reasonable fix in a residential area, but, as the Judge ruled in the lawsuit, law-abiding drivers have no problem on this street. It would not matter what restrictions are implemented, the drivers that ignore the laws will still be a hazard to everyone else. I would still be in favor of the added stops.

How about drivers LEARN how to drive, the road is not an issue if you are a law abiding citizen with a shred of common sense.

" Law-abiding drivers have no problem on this street" was an actual comment from a Judge? ..it makes no sense. If the Issue is the speeding in a residential area, its not the law abiding ones this is in referring too.. they would just have to deal with the change.
I do agree no matter what actions are taken to ensure others follow speed limits..People will still drive reckless- Common sense or not. jmo-

Spending is only one of several problems with traffic control and safety on this street. There are Sayles Street intersections where the sight lines are impaired by the hill itself. Pulling in and out of the Daycare Center also has impaired views of oncoming Sayles Street traffic. Trucks illegally using the street as a shortcut compound these other problems. Encouraging the using a residential street as a shortcut (especially an unsafe one) should be discouraged by pro-active traffic control measures.

Oh, so now we get to the real problem. Resident of big shot land don’t like the truck traffic…I don’t see any restricted streets on the North Side!

Joe, If you know of residential streets that have traffic problems, then point them out. Unsafe traffic is dangerous in any neighborhood, that is why Deadends and Cul-de-sacs are encouraged in new developements. They stop through traffic and funnel traffic where it is supposed to go.

Obviously, I am not the only resident that sees Sayles street has major problems.
I find "sick of troublemakers" (whose name I find inappropriate) thinks dead end streets and cul-de-sacs the answer to every problem. It is not.

I have lived in the Sayles St area for a number of years and take kids to the daycare cener. I have never had any problem with the street.
Four way stops at every intersection? Seriously? At Valley View, Patio Circle, Morgan Lane, Morgan Lane again, Birchwood, Lincoln, Cleveland????? That is totally ridiculous.
Perhaps one stop sign halfway down the hill would help, but it is a through street whatever you may say. Next you will want stop signs at every intersection on Main and Broad.

i'm with city driver... putting a stop sign at every intersection is ridiculous! i am on sayles street everyday and this would be a great inconvenience to stop every 30 yards beacuse some people can't obey a simple speed limit sign.

Glad to hear the "City Driver" has had no problems. I recently saw a driver nearly broadsided while turning onto Sayles from Birchwood.

Sayles Street is a thru street? If that is true then why is there a sign that says NO trucks - Local deliveries only? My suggestion would to lower the speed limit to 25 MPH- I would then feel that pedestrians and the kids at the day care center would be a bit more safe . Presently the street is marked witha 30 MPH limit and most cost down the hill - or excellerate up the hill at 40 mph. Reduce the limit and perhaps the speeds would come down. At the very least there should be a sign at the day care center that is is a school bus stop

Bull doze the damn knoll down at the old rail road bed down so you can see down the street. Take the fun out of the hill for the air borne drivers. I use to live there in the little house set back in.

I recently walked down the street with an infant in a stroller. I was scared to death and ready to run up on a lawn at any moment. I would say the estimate that most drivers go 40 in the 30mph zone is an underestimate. There are no lines on the road to indicate a shoulder or area where pedestrians can walk/run/ride. Since this is a city street, without sidewalks, the public safety committee needs to examine the many safety issues already mentioned in previous comments.

The most cost efficient option is to have the Oneida Police Department aggressively enforce the Vehicle & Traffic law. However, so many people who got a deserved ticket would whine and cry that the enforcement would be cut back. Stop signs, speed bumps, etc. are hardware solutions for an operator problem that do not solve the operator problem.

I appreciate you comments, but they overlook the multiple safety problems that are not directly related to speed. The intersections with poor line-of-sight intersections, the daycare center entrance and exit with poor line-of-sight, the lack of sidewalks along most of the street are "hardware problems." Police presence does nothing to change these problems. Speed and illegal commercial truck traffic does however exacerbate the "hardware" problems.

Sidewalks should be a must. The view from the top of Sayles street is wonderful. The walk up should be a test and privilege to every Oneidan, yet I doubt there are enough walkers.
As for the driving aspect, illegal vehicles and speeders are police business and our cops should be very interested in fining risky drivers.
Parking...Go slower folks. Brakes are useful in saving lives...also, consideration for your fellow man.

Sayles Street is no more dangerous than any other street folks speed on! Slow down!

Are you nuts. I live on that street and adding stop signs up and down the road is not the solution. I do not want cars stopping and going in front of my house all day long. The solution is that drivers be responsible and obey the speed limit and be courteous when driving and see people walking.

We do not need any more stop signs in this city! There aren't that many accidents on this road and only one death in the past 25 years that I can recall (idiot teen driver trying to get air). Adding stop-signs will do nothing except cause me to peel out at every intersection just to annoy everyone who wants the stop signs.

This is a horrible idea but every garage in town will make a killing off of brake-pads and rotors.

Nope - that is some very self centered and unilateral thinking that drives good people away from any area. I agree stop signs on Sayles would be ridiculous, but Nope's comments about the death on Sayles, and Nope's other about peeling out, make Nope out to be an arrogant arse with no weapon but a middle finger to the society Nope lives among. Stop signs were made for people with no consideration for others or good judgment.

This issue was brought up to the council at a recent meeting. Madison County civil engineers deemed that stop signs at every intersection would be "overkill and would cause more accidents due to stalling vehicles". The council passed on the issue with no votes in favor of it.
