This is an eyesore, please remove it!

This is 436-438 Georgia Street. Buck Kamphausen controls it. It is more expensive to fix than to tear down and begin again. This is blight.

This is a city in California, in some of the highest per capita real estate valuations in the country. Not only should he fix the issue, but the city needs to do ITS job - for a change.

This is a horrid eyesore and a blatant example of how the few wealthy building owners truly control the destiny of downtown. Council has ignored this blight for years in to assumably curry favor from them...

Please do something about this building. all the other buildings are fixed. why isn't this one fixed?

Please get the owner to fix this eyesore in the heart of downtown Vallejo. (Better yet, get him to sell it!) It's contributing to keeping our downtown from becoming the beautiful bustling downtown it could be.

Four years is far too long. No excuse. Fix it or sell it and move on.

All the destruction in downtown Napa from the same earthquake has been fixed, and it was far more damaging there than it was here. This situation needs to be resolved and the building repaired.

Get real, Who do you think runs this city: you citizens, or Bucky and his pals in City Hall? When they talk about Economic Development, it's not your economy they're talking about.

Is the City collecting the vacant/abandoned building fees, as per City code, if so why is this not monitored?

The owners of 436-438 Georgia have had their property tax basis adjusted down to $350K from the $2.6mm that they paid for the building through a trustee's deed. You can look this value up on the assessor's web site. Parcel # is 0056-193-100.

The $350K number might still be high. They've stopped contributing meaningfully to the property tax base.

Furthermore, this building also poses a liability to the public in the event of another earthquake. If it wasn't safe in the last one, it sure isn't safe now that most of the front has peeled off.

Put it up for sale for the appraised tax basis. Presumably the owner had to argue that was the fair value for the lower re-assessment. Or repair the building.

When people buy plots in the Evergreen cemetery, they put down money that is supposed to support the maintenance of the cemetery in perpetuity. Evergreen Cemetery manages that money and invests it. This building is one of those investments that has gone horribly wrong. They need to take the loss and move on.

Buck needs to GO.

The City needs to stop looking the other way!! It shouldn't matter how much someone donates to certain causes in the city. Noone should be allowed to hold the downtown hostage by preventing its development! Not sure if it's this building or the one next to it, but it has sat empty at least since I moved here in 2000; I don't know how long before that. If code allows this, then change it! If it's not allowed then enforce the code please! Downtown will never develop to its full potential until that happens!

The city has the right to fine property owners for this, and if they don't pay they can force the sale of the property, as it is a health and safety nuisance, it's a long process but it has to start at some point. The city of Vallejo is not enforcing this. Why? There are so many properties that need to be cleaned up or torn down, and this is a good time for values and interest rates etc. If the current owner is unable to keep the property in a safe and clean condition, then it should be fined until they are forced to sell. This should be happening all over this town. I come from Sonoma County, and we do it there, but we don't have to very often. Court appointed sales are few, because once the owner realizes that they have to clean the property to keep from it being sold, then they clean it. I used to work in this area and have dealt with court appointed sales, and it's up to the city to uphold the laws. As citizens we can only vote and complain.

I agree with New2Vallejo. Please City of Vallejo enforce the regulations and make it painful for owners to neglect their properties.

Was no Code Enforcement sent when I reported this 13 day ago? No eTrakit case started? Duplicate of issue 4277933 reported March 27. Will you really do the job this time? You are helping to support all the comments made about alleged corruption in the system.

This is not the first time a case has been closed without being fixed. There is something wrong with the system. For a long time, I was being notified of problems in Kansas, a place I've never been.
