Description
The garbage bins located at 235 Meadowlake Way (Brooks Housing Society Complexes), are currently experiencing issues with their residential garbage pick-ups. Their regularly scheduled pick-ups are to occur on Thursday's and pick-ups are not happening during these regularly scheduled times. The placement of the bins is also an issue, as they are placed in a manner as to obstruct the flow of traffic and this needs to be addressed. In addition, when pick-ups have happened in the past the barriers that are located around the bins are experiencing damage due to the trucks hitting the barriers, and these barriers need to be fixed. If this is a contracted service, please contact the contractor and ensure that these issues are addressed. Please contact the Manager of the complexes for further questions - thank you.

The regular scheduled pick up day for this location is Thursday. If there are any collection issues at any of the collection sites being serviced on behalf of the City that does not allow the Contractor to service bins they notify the City in writing, usually the following day. This information is passed on to Municipal Enforcement for follow up (when applicable). A meeting was held with the City’s Contractor with regards to this issue and as a part of the ongoing communication strategy with the City, the Contractor will notify the City of any delays in service that may affect the collection day. The Contractor will make every effort to maintain their collection schedule. If the garbage bins are not serviced by the end of the regular business day on the scheduled day of collection, the issue should be reported to the Public Works Department so that a record of the issue can be made and any corrective measures needed can be implemented without delay.
The garbage bins are in the place originally agreed to location that was established at the time the current program started. The locations were agreed to by the location’s representatives, representatives of the City and the Contractor. Should the garbage containers be moved into a different location during the collection process, this issue should be reported without delay to the Public Works Department so that they can work with the Contractor to repair the issue.
Any damage caused to the location’s infrastructure that is suspected to have been caused by the City’s Contractor should be reported immediately to the Public Works Department so that an investigation can be conducted to determine if the Contractor’s equipment is responsible for the damage. There was no visible damage found during the investigation. Should there be any issues with the proximity of the garbage bins and surrounding enclosures, the existing enclosures should be considered to be removed. Other enclosures that impeded the safe and efficient collection of garbage bins have already been removed at this service location.
The Public Works Supervisor attended the location on Thursday, May 3 to verify that the City’s Contractor had emptied all of the garbage bins on site. All containers on site have been emptied. No further action required at this time.
