Ridley Park Police often sit on West Ridley watching the traffic situation near Lakeview. There are 15 MPH flashing lights on W Ridley as you approach Trainor street but the flashing flights are not PA "Official" School Crossing lights because Lakeview School does not physically contact W Ridley. Ridley Avenue is a State Highway and having anythging done is a Commonwealth of PA issue, not a Ridley Park one; this prevents Ridley Park PD from using Radar to issue tickets for speeding. All our police can do is patrol and enforce the traffic laws. The intersection at Trainor and West Ridley has received the most attention. This is the intersection that is staffed by "Gerri" the crossing guard. If you talk to Gerri and ask her about the "Close calls" she has dozens of stories to tell.
In one incident last year, you were a witness to one of those near-run-over a pedestrian-incidents and you called the police in that incident. Thanks for keeping us informed that the problem is continuing. With all the attention at the intersection of W Ridley and Trainor, from what I have personally witnessed, it's better then it's been. Nowadays 60% of the speeders I see are folks passing through our Borough in a hurry a smaller % then last year are the parents of students, and the rest are "the usual offenders" who don't pay attention to complete stops at stops signs and local speed limits anyway so why should flashing yellow lights slow them down; they are the clueless.
This complaint on the same street titles the school-bus drivers. Citizens should grab the license numbers of speeding buses and call RPPD - more suggestions?
I complained at borough council about being almost sideswiped by a school bus at the curve on W Ridley by the lake & Samantha Snow told me to get the 3-digit number on the bus; people might find that easier to read & remember than the license plate.
So if we can't have speed traps on W Ridley then what can we do? Go to the school board & report the drivers there? BTW, what streets in RP are NOT state roads? Seems to me that every time there's a problem the line is "that's a state road."
Funny u say that Ridley Park resident. Ive been told the same thing over and over about Chester pike and Acers drive about a traffic light RP online tells me Its a Pa state rd and controlled by them. well when contacting Pa they tell me to contact township about it. This website seems to be one big circus act. Whats the point of it if nothing gets done about it. They always blame state It bull. Look at all the complaints! None of them hardly ever fixed. Its always contact this person or that person. This app/website is a waste of time. For instance here is what state responded back to me on my concern.
Resolution: Signal is owned and operated by local Municipality, Contact Ridley Twp, they need to check to see if there is a detector problem and repair it if necessary. The following complaint/issue concern has been resolved Reference number: 20130430-D6-979MDA
This is directly from state but rp says its states problem. Like I said circus act! Get it together Ridley township before the neighborhoods turn to crap!!
