@Landowner A bike lane doesn't necessarily mean widening the road. A 9-block stretch on a mid-level road with no stoplights is quite ridiculous, especially when you consider that there is a bike/walk trail (which will become more important as complete streets/the greenbelt are implemented) that you literally cannot get to without using or crossing W Circular. The main less-traveled routes are Ash and Oak, both of which run into this same problem at the Franklin/Grand intersection.

Many people have brough tthis issue up in the past. There is a very lengthy history of complaints with the public safety department including serious accidents such as rollovers. The police have said they would patrol more often to control speed but city hall has given no indication they would ever consider a traffic control device.

This is the major road between West Avenue and Broadway. School buses and Pubic Safety vehicles use it. It is also the road traveled by students with cars and their principal route to walking to and from home. The intersection of Beekman, Franklin and West Circular is dangerous. The bottleneck has been the site of many accidents.

Parking along the narrower section of this street should be limited to either one side or the other but not both. Now, cars cannot pass in good weather let alone winter when both sides are loaded. The city needs to investigate and measure the width of the roadway at several points so as not to become liable for a potential fatality.

Bikes along this 30-mph roadway should be permitted. It does lead to the bike trail and the high school.

Parking is not the issue nor has it ever been an issue. Since streets with parking along both sides generally have slower vehicle traffic why would we want to eliminate that? Where are the cars parked along the narrow sections anyway? When was the last time there was an accident because of a parked car? Just what exactly are you talking about?
