The city's robocall didn't go out until 7pm last night. Signs were barely posted and people were trying to move their cars around Edwards/Nicoll/Nash with no idea which side was the correct side to be on. Why is it never announced that the odd side will be first or vice versa?
This morning, new signs were posted where none had been before and people were getting towed and caught off guard as they left for work. Maybe worst of all, tow trucks were speeding down Nash Street THE WRONG WAY in an effort to tow everyone the fastest, nearly causing multiple accidents and jamming traffic.
I'm happy to comply with street sweeping but the city needs to make it easier for citizens to comply. Announce earlier, more clearly, and stop rigging the entire system for the benefit of the tow truck companies.

Thanks for feedback. We currently utilize several channels of communication to share the street sweeping schedule along with announcements (SeeClickFix) and printed media at the beginning of street sweeping season but we are always open to more.
If you'd like a printed copy you can download it right from the city website here:
https://www.newhavenct.gov/gov/depts/pw/street_sweeping.htm
for monthly city alerts on each Tag-Tow sweeping route (text,e-mail, phone) reminder system residents can opt in here:
https://www.newhavenct.gov/gov/depts/emergency_info/alerts.htm
Those city alerts are schedule the night before we begin each route at the very same time - 7 pm.
Lastly, we paper post each Tag-Tow route to reflect the odd and/or even side being swept on each day.

Yes, Public Works, you did all the things you say you did. You just did them all poorly. A 7pm robocall needs to be earlier. Signs need to be posted BEFORE the robocall goes out and not one ratty paper sign every 3 blocks. The robocall, text message, emails, and schedule shouldn't just say "Tuesday - Tag Tow" it should indicate ahead of time which side, odd or even, is being swept. Today the ODD side of Edwards was swept, and the EVEN side of Nash was swept. So unlike snow bans, it's not even trying to be consistent or easy for people to comply.
Add to that the swarming, cash-hungry tow trucks barreling dangerously down narrow one way streets the wrong way. This morning was chaos even for people who receive all your messages and try to comply ahead of time. That's not on us, that's on you.

The street cleaning towing issue may not be news to New Haven residents but it is, for an out of towner. For this one out-of-towner whose car was towed after a temporary street cleaning sign was erected apparently after I parked resulted in a $50 ticket, and thanks to someone who yelled out, ONLY $83 dollars to the tow company who I caught within a split second of driving off with my car. Had it made it to the yard, the tow and storage fees would have been considerably more.
The explanation given to me by the city is the most ludicrous and corrupt mess I have heard. A city worker apparently precedes the tow trucks, erects the signs, and then removes them after everyone who thought they were legally parked in a 2-hour zone of a coffee shop on Orange Street are towed. Based on the response above, there is apparently a robocall that goes out to RESIDENTS of New Haven, those people who have phones, whose phone number is registered with the city, who are in town, who aren't on a flight to or from somewhere, those whose phones have not been temporarily disconnected due to lack of funds. This is a gross injustice. A very serious unconstitutional notice and an egregious unconstitutional taking of private property. The spanking brand new tow trucks lined up that morning ready to roll out is prima facia evidence of a corrupt scheme to defraud the residents and unsuspecting visitors of their money by issuing fines and towing fees that guarantee revenue to the city and tow company. If the notice was adequate, the city could not have guaranteed a return on the investment to the tow companies. They knew when this defected system was designed that it was inadequate notice.
This is nothing more than government corruption. And the New Haven government knows it. I will not be returning to New Haven nor will my money - other than to do whatever is necessary to proceed with a class action lawsuit.
