"They don't really cause a problem, they're just a real big nuisance," said Matt Smith, Director of Mosquito Management for Sarasota County.
Smith says the bugs are harmless, and help the ecosystem by eating decaying plant matter. He isn't alarmed by larger population of love bugs flying around the Suncoast.
"Populations will have cycles, years where there's more, years where there's less, and it's dependent on a lot of things, mostly environmental," explained Smith.

roseycakes, Didn't you say the same last year when we have the worst mosquito outbreak in Sarasota history?
Allow me remind you what you had to said word for word.. -> "this has not been a "bad year"... totally normal. Sounds like someone should buy some DEET"
That being said, You again have no clue. When a guest save THEIR entire year to come hang out with us but can't enjoy the outside.. Come on down, I'll show you Properties covered in the 100's of thousands.. On ever level THAT = A PROBLEM! How about you cover the $1,000's in lost revenues or make my payroll? I got it, offer to pay for their next vacation.. All from something that was created in a laboratory. idiocracy

dude, they are harmless.
why would you compare them to mosquitos.
they don't even bite.
did you even read the inverview in the link with Matt Smith,
Director of Mosquito Management for Sarasota County?
I am a full time resident, they do not bother me.
It is past season, so if you are relying on pleaseing a full year vacation renters,
you should have a more realistic expectations, because you cannot control nature.
We sell the nature as part of our tourism. .
I live here for the nature.

Yeah, So you aren't willing to cover the expenses, not even the payroll?
You protect mosquito last year and now all about protecting Love Bugs you refer to as natural nature LOL
Thankfully County officials/staff doesn't follow your recommendations. Leaves plenty of time to smell the roses.
That being said, If your intentions are really to protect "nature".. Feel free to donate your time and/or resources to saving Big Pass like i have. Honestly, We welcome any and all positive support.

everything I have said is from the article. I'm sure our friends in nature who eat the lovebugs are thriving as well this year. I am also sure that Mote Marine appreciates my donation dollars, just as the wildlife they study to protect appreciates us laying off unecessaryj pesticides.
Michael, if you are refunding guests $$ beecause they are complaining about lovebugs, you are crazy stupid. If you are blaming lovebugs for lost revenues, I would say your business model is lacking the the strength to withstand a stress model. Seriously? I bet you whine about lost revenues with all uncontrollable acts of nature.. when it rains for the week your guests waited all year to spend in the sun... when there is red tide for months on end, when we have a hurricane.
