Slowing traffic down even more than it is now would be a really bad idea. The school on Lafayette has a crossing guard and that is enough. The kids should be instructed not to cross at the other crosswalks.

Oh really? Safety and pedestrians are the priorities, not the SUVs zooming through town and not the slowing traffic. Find an alternative way to get to places if it’s too slow for you.

Yes. Safety and pedestrians are the priority. That is why they are given the right of way at crosswalks. But people also need to take responsibility for themselves and not jaywalk. Also, vehicles need to stop stopping for people who are waiting to cross the street outside of designated crosswalks. It creates an unsafe situation for the pedestrian AND motorist.

Education is the key to reform, not more regulation.

This a high volume area for pedestrians and motorists. Traffic signals would need warrants completed. A traffic engineer would be needed to design the signals. You need overhead mast arms tone Mass uniform Traffic Code Compliant. We are looking at a time frame at least a year away to complete the project. I would suggest a set of Rapid Flashing Signals pedestrian operated in conjunction with the crossing guard. People are getting better at heeding the warning that the signals provide. Dear City Electrician,
I completely agree with you on the Rapid Flashing Signals pedestrian operated in conjunction with the crossing guard. The Crossing Guard is there only before the school starts and ends, but people walk there all the time. We want to be able to cross streets in the city without the risk of being killed. Children walk there all the time and even adults have a heard time crossing these streets because crosswalks are not well paved and cars, SUVs, and Trucks are just zooming in without ever looking.

Better yet, add speed bumps. That's the only way that douchebags like "anon" will learn to slow down. If you don't like traffic lights and crosswalks, I would suggest that you move to the woods.

Even speed bumps may not help people who speed; however , good lights traffic lights like the ones installed everywhere in Boston and on Route 1A, significantly improved safety for pedestrians. Banning right turns on RED would also be safer for pedestrians. Cars can wait, but people should feel safe walking and crossing streets, children especially!

What a perfect example why this way of running a city is insane. We elected people to run our city and they are trying to make us run it for them. The mayor is to busy getting grants for the harbor walk and playgrounds on New Derby an the point as she drives by sidewalks with furniture and trash all over them. We should be able to vote on weather we want this or a reduction in taxes to do this work for the city.
