Deskripsyon

Is there anything a resident can do to stop the removal of trees on private property? The new owner's of the Spychalski funeral home removed 10 large (50ft+), old, beautiful trees yesterday, 6 of which were perfectly healthy according to the arborist that was on site. Is there anything we can do to stop them from taking down more? These trees were home to dozens of birds and squirrels not to mention the historical and environmental impact of removing these beauties.

The city seems to care very little about the trees, either private or city owned. In the past year almost every large mature tree in my neighborhood has been cut down and not replanted. What was once a beautiful part of Salem is now an urban wasteland. When I asked about it on this site I was told that the very highly educated city arborist makes decisions about the "very valuable" trees within city limits. I'm afraid we are out of luck.

So sad. Our Ward Councillor just posted a comment about how lucky we are in Salem to have all these different types of trees to act as natural air and water filters, I guess we are out of luck on Boardman and Briggs Street.

Yeah, it's all just a facade that they put on when they act like they care. Yet 5 mature, healthy, city-owned trees were cut down in the past year on one street alone in this neighborhood and no trees have been planted to make up for it. The worst part is that they don't post signs or notices, they just show up one day and start cutting.
