Stop signs would be helpful so that pedestrians can cross safely. Or flashing beacons at crosswalks. Also, there really should be a median divider on Nassau so that pedestrians have a refuge point.

That is a great idea. I think that if there was someone such as an officer or crossing guard during the warmer seasons to regulate pedestrian traffic. Many people I feel cross the street at the wrong time.

Additionally, the city could restrict cars on Nassau/Witherspoon and make this a car-free/pedestrian-only area---at least during certain hours of the day. It should really be pedestrian/bikes only, ideally. Not a lot of space for cars here.

The Princeton Police Department is in receipt of your concern and will give the area increased attention. As far as educating the public is concerned, the Princeton Police Department assigned three officers to the intersection of Nassau/Witherspoon on April 19, 2018 between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM as part of the Princeton Police Department's 2018 Spring Street Smarts Pedestrian Safety Campaign. During that time frame, a total of 981 general contacts were made with pedestrians traversing the intersection on foot for the purpose of providing those same individuals with pedestrian safety information and information in relation to the current laws which address the proper utilization of marked crosswalks located at signalized intersections which are equipped w/ pedestrian heads. An additional 93 contacts were made with pedestrians observed crossing at this very intersection while actively utilizing their cell phones. All 93 were also provided with information outlining the dangers associated with the same. - Sgt Thomas Murray
