The State Street Association is donating 8 bike racks to the street. Engineering and Traffic and Parking have been very helpful in getting this project moved along quickly.

Could we go another step and help the New Haven Bike Coop get support to partner in creating a local yellow bike program? I know they have tons of bikes and train local kids to become bike mechanics.

What's a yellow bike program?

I think the first ones were in Netherlands. Paris has a city-s=wide one as of recently. It is where hundreds or thousands of bikes are all painted one color- say yellow maybe, and made available for free or with some sort of a pass access to locks and kept at numerous key points around the city. Just hop on one go where you are going and leave it where you land. Plenty of great models out there to emulate. plenty of potential partners here in NH to make it happen. Could be launched at the opening of the Hamden NewHaven connection on the Farmington canal.

I think that's an excellent idea.

That seems to be a good warning.
I also think that bike theft is about more than "needing a bike" That was in 2001. It might be good to do a follow up Nate to see how it worked.
