band of Homeless that are residing on dilapidated & non-operable boats moored in the cove of little Bayou. These guys are living under city Pavilion from 7AM til Dark. The general public has no access to enjoy it! Homeless also have large dogs which are also kept under pavilion. There both human and dog waste all over grounds & along shoreline! This is not a designated homeless camp, its a Public Park that has been taken over by homeless. This has been reported more than a dozen times. We do not need for the City to notify the homeless activist group. We need the CITY to take ACTION!. The City would NEVER allow this to happen in North St. Pete - Straub Park. Shameful how the City turns a blind eye to the South Side!

We work closely with various City departments and local social service providers to address issues faced by our homeless population, and we also work with neighborhood associations to address the concerns they have, as well. Our Police Department has a Street Outreach Team that actively canvasses areas where the activities of the homeless are noticed, and they will continue doing so to ensure the safety of all citizens. Please immediately report any criminal activity or safety concerns to the SPPD directly by calling 727-893-7780 if not an emergency, or 911 if an emergency. Thank you.

Thank you for reporting this. My understanding is that The Police Marine Unit is monitoring the situation with the boats moored in Big Bayou. They have cited owners for the condition of their vessels, and they ask that if you see any illegal activity or dumping please call them directly so they can respond while the violation is happening.
I have also asked our homeless street outreach team to go by this location to offer their assistance to anyone they find who may be homeless and in need of help. Our outreach team can get them connected to shelter, housing, meals, medical care, substance abuse treatment and other services they may be in need of. I also referred this to our Police Department and asked them to increase their monitoring of this location at all hours of the day, including evening and early morning hours. Should they encounter anyone, they will also offer their help, including free transportation to shelter. We will continue to monitor this area to offer our assistance to anyone in need of help, as well as enforce local ordinances. Thank you again for reporting this to us.
