You could do what Andy suggests, or, you could call the police and complain. Let THEM go inside to make the polite request to turn down their "sermon".

They are set up on the sidewalk chairs and all. They have the same extra large speakers used in a concert in front of 20,000 people. They have about 20 people at the most attending the service. They held a 4 hour long service the other day....I live two blocks away and I had to turn on the AC just to drown them out. I didn't make the complaint here on click fix but, I will call the police the next time they are out there> They are disturbing the peace. I will do one better I will call the district supervisor maybe he can talk to them before they have another revival, less intrusive.

Thank you NHResident for your comments. Thats what I was thinking - "disturbing the peace". This is why I posted this, because of the event they had this past week....which is like the 3rd Ive seen in a years time.

I don't know folks, these church services never bothered me, nor do I find them offensive or disrespectful. I live nearby and can hear them from my house. I am not at all a religious person, but I do enjoy listing to the music and the singing. Sure it is a little loud, and they block some of the sidewalk, but there is always room to get through, and its not like they are trying to convert every pedestrian that walks by. In a city where so much is so very wrong, it is nice to know that, at least for a little while, people are joined together with a common purpose, and are happy. It seems to me that there are more annoying peace disruptors in our neighborhood and calling the police over this one is somewhat selfish.

Just my opinion, I am sure some will disagree.

What is "somewhat selfish" is people making a racket and forcing other people to listen to their music and superstitious delusions.

No one is "forcing" you to believe what they believe, participate in their service, or even listen to what they are doing.

I would take this any day over the idiots with the car stereos that rattle their cars to pieces.

You said it all in your third sentence. I'm sure there's somebody, somewhere that likes to listen to the noise made by a jackhammer. To each his own, but, don't make me have to shut myself in the house with the a/c on because it's the only place I can go to get away from the jackhammer noise, or "music and singing" I don't like. Yes, it's a nice idea these people come together and are happy and all that. So they should plant trees to get that happy togetherness feeling. It's quiet and it doesn't annoy anybody.

Oh geez Bellevue I just read your second comment. Not "forcing" you to listen is just wrong, period. Now I'm convinced these people need to call NHPD the minute they hear this nonsense next time. And keep calling until they drag their sound equipment back inside where it belongs.

No one claimed that they were being "forced to believe". Fortunately, in this country, churches don't have the power (though they are all trying) to force their beliefs on other people. The forcing referred to was the noise pollution (you know, like if someone was standing outside your jackhammering - though that would probably be more productive than jabbering about invisible men in the sky) - just like car stereos. And the choice is not between car stereos and loud religious people, the choice is between being a considerate neighbor, or being a loud, inconsiderate neighbor who hides behind the privilege of superstition to make an annoying racket and take over public space.

Id rather hear a car stereo then the church - why? Because being bothered by the car stereo is as long as it takes for them to drive on by. The church is consistent for hours at a time with no relief.

You here it all the way over on Bellevue? That proves that it it way too loud. . It is not joyous singing I hear from the back of my house, it is a droning monotone yowling NOISE it's not even soulful. I would be @#$% if they were blaring rap music, hard rock or classical(maybe not the latter). It's an intrusion on other peoples peace and it is selfish of them not to respect that.

Some great debate here about how people define noise and what some tolerate vs. are intolerant too, however it doesn't address the fact that SCF isn't an invisible hand that will magically smote allegedly loud worshipers. The question is, then, will Passer-by go and speak to the pastor, call the cops, file a grievance with the archbishop, etc?

A few days ago and they had ANOTHER event! Mics, huge speakers, chairs, podiums, not giving any respect to others around. Completely disrespectful to those around! How is this "Christian" anyway?

When will the city step in?

E: The city will step in when people who have legitimate complaints actually tell the city. You can do this by dialing 203.946.6316, which is the New Haven Police Department's non-emergency number. Of course you could also go to the church and speak to the pastor and ask her/him to turn down the volume a bit. In fact, it'd be a bit more neighborly of you to do that prior to getting the cops involved.

Just guessing this particular church doesn't have archbishop to speak to. I could be wrong. You all have to start calling the cops. Andy O - people like this don't usually understand when somebody is trying to use a little finesse in a situation. It's either slam them over the head with the cops or nothing. Just my experience.

Andy O. Why dont you go and try to approach a female preacher surrounded by several (about 6) coworkers and 30 people in the audience all on a small area of a sidewalk and see what that kind of results you get. This church is one of those "hole in the wall" congregations - they are never open until they decide to have a sermon. But you go ahead and try to talk to them and let me know how it goes for you.

If I did have a gripe or complaint about people making noise I'd have done something about it myself. I call the police department when I have a complaint, I'm active in my neighborhood management team to address quality of life issues, and, in general, I interact with live people in order to get the things done that I want to see done. Not that I think I'm anyone special, but I did go and provide information as to how to begin to remedy your complaint. But getting smarmy with someone trying to help doesn't seem productive in resolving anything. Have fun interfacing with your ones and zeroes- let's see how well that works out for you.

Who said I am not productive? I have called the police - I can not go above that because I do not live directly in the area for them to even take me seriously. I would have hoped that us "griping" about it here would get the attention it needs and someone from the city would step in....but it appears not. It would take a tenant in the area to make the difference.

The return of outdoor revivals at this particular church has been revived. About 50 chairs outside on the sidewalk, podium and speakers. WHEN will this end. I see someone else is now doing it: http://www.seeclickfix.com/issues/119044 Is this going to become an epidemic? Forcing religion on others should be completely unacceptable, not to mention the "disturbing the peace".

It really is inconsiderate, I live nearby and if I walk to Dunkin Donuts on Whalley and the Boulevard I can hear it loud and clear even down past Walgreens!!
