We need street clean up because of the homeless encampment. It is the 23rd Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Northgate Ave.

23rd Street: I been fighting to get rid of this encampment on my residential street since January of 2017 with drama pictures of police and fire department constantly on the scene. I went to block meetings to address this issue. I have homeless people defecate on my property more than 3 times. It was a gross clean-up. My tenant with a 10 year daughter was appalled. I already lost one tenant. I was hopeful when the cabins on Northgate & 27th St were implemented in early May. With the capacity of 40, it made little difference. The homeless population is too large and the neighboring neighborhoods will continue to endure and suffer. If I ever catch the person in progress defecating on my property, I will confront him and someone is going to get hurt. I'm not going to take this sitting down. No one is going to help and you're going to have to protect your own.

Jim, thank you for supporting the non homeless community. I have had similar experiences and no help in resolving them. I guess responsible citizens don't matter to the City of Oakland.

Baddragon, check out my photo which is similar to 23rd Street's photo. Notice that the garbage from the tent is dumped on the right side, right next to a private residential home. This is what the City has been allowing for over 1-1/2 years. This is what we have to live with. This is why the City doesn't care about our neighborhood. If this were to happen in Oakland Hills, this whole encampment would be in jail.

Reporting on SCF doesn't mean they will respond. The city is very capable of ignoring hazardous situations below the 580 until they spin out of control, or someone is killed, or until the TV cameras show up for the Warriors (as in Lake Merritt this week)

23rd Street: On 9/22/15 there was a big clean-up. No. . . the year is not a typo . . . is truly 2015 This encampment is been here even longer than this photo and our neighborhood has been suffering ever since.

23rd Street. After the clean-up of 9/22/15, 7 days later on 9/29/15, our street is already getting trashed by this encampment in the same spot has your photo on 6/1/18 almost 3 years later. Clean-up will not solve the trash/dumping problem until this encampment is gone.

I've contacted several people in the Oakland City Government including Joe DeVries and the Mayor's Office. They said they need several months to relieve the homeless encampment. I hope they can at lease restore the weekly cleaning of the street.

23rd Street: Here's another bone to pick. Why do we have to ask for a special street cleaning? On this block, one side of the street is NO parking on Mon, Wed, & Fri and the other side of this street is NO parking on Tues, Thurs, & Sat just for Street Sweeping. I know of no street in Oakland that requires Street Sweeping 6 days a week. With this, residents can not park one side of this street everyday. Does the City sweep? No they do not sweep that's why the street is so trashed BUT the Meter Maid do come everyday to give parking tickets if you're parked on the wrong side. What a hostile environment for the residents. What a accommodating environment for the encampments.

Our local city government is both thoroughly corrupt and incompetent. The residents of the flatlands need to file a class action against them for gross neglect spanning decades

You may want to look into a lot of small claims law suits against them as individuals. The limit is $10,000 but that would add up if enough affected people sued. Suing the city is like suing ourselves.

True. What we really need is a law to hold our city leaders personally responsible instead of shifting the burden onto the taxpayers. Whenever the city is sued, the money should come out of the pockets of the officials.

More drama on our 23rd Street residential street where families with children live. The City has allowed the encampments and danger to our residents. Just notice that this issue has not been resolved since posted on 6/1/18.

Jim Yup! This is unfortunately what happens when we let Demo.crats get elected. These camp sites and garbage piles across the city are just one of the many symptoms of a lib.eral demo.crat city government. Oakland used to be such a nice and clean city before the demo.crats took over. It's really tragic what happened to this place as a result of lib.eral demo.crat policies letting crime and homelessness overrun the city.

Oakland Mayoral Forum is being held next Weds, the 26th at 5:30pm. 2819 Broadway. Get as many of your neighbors to attend, detail how long this has gone on and how bad this problem is. Blow up photos to poster size and get a reporters attention

See the photo of the trash and filth of what our residents on 23rd Street have to live with. This is how the City expects us to live, to be patient, to have compassion, and to have respect. This has been going on for over three years and counting.

More drama on our 23rd St/MLK. Someone set fire to the trash in between a tent and a residential home. Very dangerous environment living next to an encampment.

Its like I was saying, nothing is going to change this stuff short of voting the dems out and getting some reps back into power. We can voice our concerns to them over and over (it's not like they don't already know this stuff is happening btw, people have been complaining to the city for literally YEARS!) The only way this will ever change is if we vote them out and get rep.ublicans back in power. Oakland was a GREAT city when it was run by rep.ublicans about half a century ago. Then the demo.crats came and ruined it. It's that simple., We have to get them out of power. it's the only way. They will not act no matter how many of us complain. We have to get them out!

Now there's another fire. This time it's in-between two tents. What a dangerous situation to a fires set near residential homes. The sad news is that the City knows and doesn't care about it's taxpayer's plight.

On the other side of the same Street (23rd St), there are needles all over the place. This is very dangerous to have this encampment on a residential Street in which children live. Again the City doesn't do anything to help its taxpaying residents to rid of all encampments on residential streets.
