Yes, a crosswalk is more than needed.

A flashing light or more would also be great.

It is very scary to cross here with little kids. And, then there are also all of the tweens/teens who go to ECA, NMS, NH Ballet, etc. who are crossing BY THEMSELVES all afternoon with no cross walk.

What needs to happen to get this done? What do we do?

How about a big speed hump as well. Those speed humps work really well on Canner (and most of Europe, but I better not mention this so not to arouse stubborn americans).

It's coming! There are already numerous tickets on this issue dating back several years, and Doug Hausladen and I submitted a Complete Streets application to the City which inspired the coming crossing improvements. The work could not be started before the major pipe-laying project in the area is complete, so I have heard that changes might be coming this summer. Digging is actually happening this morning, although I do not know for which project. In the meantime please be safe crossing here! The potholes have caught several ankles off guard already.

Thank you everyone for the comments. Erin, I'm glad to hear and see that the prerequisite pipe work is underway. Here's hoping that they can put in at least a temporary cross-walk prior to start of school in August. A stop sign or speed bump would be nice as well.

Design is almost complete. Will report back when construction date is planned.

I'm really proud of the work the City of New Haven has done - yes it has taken years, but it was all for a good reason - the WPCA was going to rip up the road so patience was of the essence.

Part of @erin and my application (kudos to Erin for her excellent work!) has already happened - the street trees along Whitney Ave have been replanted after the WPCA project was complete. Patience is not always my forte, but when the work is completed, I know it'll have been worth it!

Has anyone noticed the resurgence of retail/restaurants along Whitney Ave b/w Audubon and Trumbull? New smoothie shop and Wings over New Haven look great! Now just need enough bike racks for SoHu to park!

Work has started on the raised crosswalk at Whitney and Audubon! We can close these issues in celebration when the new crosswalk is open, which will take most of the summer according to Transportation, Traffic and Parking Director Doug Hausladen.
