How about turn signals on 54th Ave N and 94th Ave N, both currently experience higher traffic volumes. I hope the cost of this traffic light was paid for by WaWa.

Please just remove this light. It should be illegal anyways. FDOT put it in, funded by Wawa (a business based outside of Florida), without local resident input. The city's hands are tied because we've allowed FDOT to control 4th St. This is the second time in the past couple years that FDOT has installed a superfluous lighted intersection in very close proximity to another, creating worse, more dangerous traffic conditions and without care for repeated complaints from locals. The other is 94th Ave N and 16th St, part of the botched Gandy project.

The intersection does not use pre-timed operation; it uses vehicle detection. The detection has been checked and found to be working properly.

Well... just go stand there for a while like I just did. You will see the lights randomly go RED on 4th Street with NO CROSS TRAFFIC on 87th. Then I noticed that the pedestrian walk signals on 87th operate all of the time and would randomly stop the Northbound traffic only 18 seconds after the countdown ran out and the red hand came up. (Southbound o 4th remained green) Upon close inspection of both sides of 94th on 87th there were NO SENSORS evident in the roadway. Further, when cars did come in from 87th they waited much longer than necessary to turn. Traffic was pulsed enough that they could have easily moved on had the traffic light not stopped them.

It uses video detection; look on top of the mast arms. the reason for the long wait for 87th Ave. N is the intersection is coordinated north and south: the downside to coordinating intersections is it creates longer waits for the side street. Locking memory on the side street is used to minimize this, but will cause the lights to change without cars present. Will check the pedestrian signals.

That's the dumbest thing I've heard yet. That still does not address the lights stopping traffic on 4th street, when there is no side traffic on 87th that triggered the inputs to change the lights. This really needs to be fixed, before we organize a protest!

No! they are not working properly! There needs to be below ground vehicle sensing, I.E. old school, and not stopping traffic for no reason! So help me, I am going to organize a protest, and have all the news channels and our worthless mayor called when it happens!!!!!
