Description
I have one large dog of my own and one dog in training through a foster program. Too many owners let their little yappy small breed dogs off leash here and do not have control over them. Numerous times I have been running my dogs, either jogging or on a bicycle, and have had said dogs disrupt us. It is not okay for your dog to run up to my two on leash dogs, one of which is in training. I take my dogs here because it is supposed to be an on leash area. I find it extremely rude and ignorant of these owners to let their dogs do whatever they feel. Also, if those were large breed dogs acting like their small breeds do, the large ones would be considered dangerous and put to sleep. Very unacceptable owner behavior. Control your dog's, or may we have a bylaw officer control this area more frequently.

I absolutely 120 % Agree with Amanda.
Today(Sunday, August 25 2013) me & my husband went for a walk in Coal Harbour by Westin Bayshore hotel and a big wet dog(Golden Retriever) was constantly interrupting our walk, so I looked back if there was a dog owner and there was a man(wearing glasses, around 30 yrs) with a blue leash in his hand about 4 -5 meters behind the dog.
And the dog was running around everywhere, so my husband walked to the owner & said, 'it's illegal to walk without a leash in public area, can you put your dog on a leash ?'
And the man said in very hostile angry manner, 'Call the police !' and kept walking without leash.
What a 'Jerk' !! (Next time definitely we'll take photos of him & post them here.)
Here is the Animal Bylaw 4.2 & 10.4
[ Leashing dogs ]
4.2 A person who keeps a dog must not permit, suffer, or allow the dog to be on a street or other public place unless the dog is under the immediate charge and control of a competent person by means of a leash that is not more than 2.5 m long or
another by-law allows the dog to be off-leash under certain circumstances.
[ Fine for offence ]
10.4 Every person who commits an offence against this By-law is punishable on conviction by a fine of not less than $250.00 and not more than $10,000.00 for each offence.
