Description

Risky intersection at Main and Centre Strret. Cross walk sign appears when cars are allowed to turn left and there is a right on red coming from downtown to Centre Street. This set-up is extremely dangerous for the visually impaired as well as for those that cannot cross quickly enough. Cars often do not yield to pedestrians crossing when they are turning left onto Centre Street. I am able bodied, however, today while crossing, I was forced to wait in the middle of the street since I could not make it across in time. A bus turning right onto Centre Street did not yield and then a truck turning left onto Centre did not yield. Normally, I'd run across quickly to make it in time, but I was crossing with an infant. I was forced to wait in the middle of the street for the next walk signal. Signs should be posted clearly to indicate that on the walk signal, cars should yield. Alternatively, lights can be programmed such that no turns are allowed while the walk signal is active. I have witnessed others struggle crossing at this intersection as well. Please do not wait until someone gets hurt to remedy this situation!
