Description

I drive up and down E. Martin at least twice a day while taking kids to school, and I'm always shocked at the level of what is clearly illicit activity - drugs, prostitution, etc. - during broad daylight. The front steps of the church at 725 E. Martin is a great example of that. How/why is RPD allowing this to go on - I NEVER see a police car even remotely close by?!?!

The area around the neighboring mini-mart was a real focus of RPD attention several years ago with their mobile unit, etc., and it really made a positive difference. But, with a total lack of attention, the area is sliding in the absolute wrong direction.

What does the average citizen, who is working so hard to help stabilize the area, have to do to get some support from RPD in the form of some regular bodily presence?

Hey genius, if you see it going on call 911. Then you will see RPD presence and you will have answered your own seeclickfix issue all by yourself.

Captain Obvious, darling - When there is repeated drug activity, in particular, happening in broad daylight with absolutely zero attempt by those committing it to conceal it, then clearly we're beyond a 911 call, which I have also done. These folks don't bat an eye from one little ole' RPD visit...or two...or three... But thanks so much for your immensely helpful suggestion!

I would love to see more police activity as well. As it's gotten warmer there are more people just hanging out on the corner, shouting at all hours of the day and night and openly selling drugs and prostitution. I have called RPD several times, but I believe if they start up their bike patrol and drive by patrol like they did last summer than it would help immensely.

I have lived in Thompson-Hunter since 2009 and it seem police activity has decreased on that street. I would like to see more police presence. What happened to the mobile unit or putting a police station in that sketchy mini-mart strip? As neighbors we do need to not get used to this kind of activity and call 911 every single time. I never hesitate anymore. I used to call non-emergency and they usually tell me I should have called 911..

I agree with the need of more police prescence. I have called the RPD on many occasions in regards to the home next us, which has seen 7 different tenants since moving into our home 3 years ago. The latest tenants are obviously selling and/or manufacturing drugs. I've seen with my own two eyes plenty of times. These guys are smart and sneaky. Last to time I called the RPD, they showed up and didn't take one of them with them. Which lead to more concern. Someone in the RPD needs to take pride in this area and make it a priority to end this activity in an area where more and more families are moving into, not to mention the ones already living there.

The Raleigh Police Department has responded. We monitored the area and increased our security checks over the last week. We did notice an increase of people and foot traffic mainly in the 700 block. We conducted several voluntary encounters with people in the area. Several citation were issued and at least one physical arrest was made. We have planned some enforcement activities for that area which will be conducted over the summer. Over the last few years we have invested significant resources in the Martin St area which have improved the quality of life. With your help we want to continue building on that progress. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Thanks, RPD. I came through there last night. There was a lot of 'suspicious' activity going on. A year ago or so, I saw some Walking Officers down there. It is comforting for me to know they are there. Again Thanks.
