Description
Residents on this street has been asking for it to be repaved for as many years as I've lived on this block. Instead walnut ave was repaved and now you have rain coming down from that new pavement onto 178th st and sitting in these potholes causing them to get worse and making the flooding issues we've already been dealing with worse than before.
I have not seen or heard ONE person mentioning they want walnut repaved. Similar to where an elderly person asked for their sidewalk to be redone on WALNUT instead my neighbor across the street from me on 178th randomly got his replaced. That person who needed the sidewalk redone never got it done.
Is this a this a issue with communication or your contractors are that incompetent that they cannot look at addresses?
I'm glad my tax dollars are being used to get things done but I'm growing tired of the people who need things done in my community get ignored.

When I wrote on here during the storm it was replied that this issue will be brought up with our counsel man
We have one light. It’s dark! People speed and it’s dark! It floods and it’s a possibly bug haven

That was meant to highlight the incompetence of these contractors you guys are hiring. Not to mention a contractor decided to put a portapotty on my lawn instead of on some kind of pavement which resulted with a brown square in my lawn.
Now I have to buy lawn care products to fix this and it’s coming out of MY pocket.

We understand your frustration and we are doing what we can to fix the problems. We have many lists of sidewalk and unfortanly there can be a wait for them to get repaired. Some people call them in so you will not see them on the site. If you have an address that is need of repair please create a new issue so I can add it to my list. Thank you.
Also I am going to send your concerns to the councilman to see what funding we can do to get more work done in the area.
Thank you again.

Some help & new info from Code Enforcement Inspector of Hammond's District 4:
SeeClickFix popped this 311 issue up as recommended for me. I see this Hammond 311 issue (issue # 4646814) has been inactive since last summer on August 14th, 2018.
I understand the concerns of residents. It can sometimes feel as if your block is being passed-up by other blocks around it while you wait for your turn. I know you guys want your streetlights, too, and I'm sure the City plans on installing them there eventually. They have to follow electrical grids and budgeted plans, which unavoidably means certain residential blocks are delayed years longer than others.
As for the street repair and street lighting programs, I strongly advise continuing to write to & follow-up with City Council:
-You can write the City Council both via mail to 5925 S. Calumet Ave, 2nd Floor, Hammond, IN 46320 AND via e-mail to Council@GoHammond.com
-Keep in mind you may very well have to send follow-up letters beyond your initial letters of request. It always helps your cause.

Now, this may be a big swing in the dark, but: I know there is a genuine concern out there regarding the public sidewalk being dangerously uneven in front of 1570 178th St, the home at the corner of 178th St. & Walnut Ave. The owner & tenants both brought it to my attention last month. I am not sure if this is one of the sidewalk concerns you have, but if so, then this is good news: I know Engineering Dept. went out & made their recommendation to Councilman Emerson. I've been told by Engineering Dept. the 1570 178th St. sidewalk at the corner was added to the sidewalk repair list at very end of July 2019. Now, this does NOT mean the sidewalk will be repaired immediately, as it is a very long repair list in each district, but take heart there are indeed plans to replace it much sooner than later!
Again, contact City Council about 178th Street's potholes. The Council controls the purse strings. If you already contacted them last year & never were told of a re-pavement plan, please, reach out to them again ASAP to bring it back to the forefront of their concerns in the 4th District.
