Description

The crosswalk at the intersection of Dorset St and UMall/Trader Joe's really needs to be redesigned to be safe. It is so unsafe and the number of near accidents of car vs pedestrian I have seen is absurd. There are two issue. The first being that there is no crosswalk crossing the Trader Joe's or UMall parking lots. It only crosses Dorset St. However, there are tons of pedestrians and bikers who are trying to cross the very busy driveways. The second issue is that the crosswalk does NOT stop traffic and it needs to. So many times cars turning don't notice a pedestrian walking and come to a screeching halt. It is such a high traffic intersection now that the crosswalk needs to be rethought about to keep pedestrians safe. As a neighbor who knows how unsafe the intersection is, I avoid it when walking on Dorset St, but I shouldn't have to go out of my way off the road to stay safe. FIX THE CROSSWALK BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT!
