Is anybody seriously screening the people moving into the apartments on Ferry Street? Cars come and go all night long. What a shame and what a scam. Our City councl told us the people would be screened to keep bad elements out. The value of our properties is already falling. Wake up city hall.

This does need to be kept up with on a daily basis. They hide after about 3pm & resurface around 7pm. And all the tenants do need to be screened thoroughly. Please help clean up a once beautiful city.

I need a job and have nothing to lose. I will gladly get rid of these druggie scumbags. But only the heroin and crack dealers, since grass is harmless, non-addictive, and when grown and used appropriately, does not contribute one iota of crime in the area.

Come on ACTING CHIEF MCMAHON!!! Instead of walking around Main St shaking hands and kissing babies, why don't you have your North End police start doing something about this??? I know that noone really wants to get there hands dirty, but it is part of the job.

Maybe we should get our own group together, like the guardian angels they have in new haven. I don't think Middletown has quite as big of an area as NH to clean up.

Well I have been living on Ferry Street Since the Wharfside Commons building opened. I am not a drug user or dealer, I have kids. I have not noticed the property values decreaseing mysel,f my property Automobile tax actually went up! I think that there is supposed to be some degree of background checks preformed but that was when they first opened? I really don't know. I wish the Police would spend a little more time here in the evenings and late nite when the animals from the northend get out in the rear of the buildings and make all kids of unecessary noise, And I'm just talking about the unsupervised Kids most of them don't even live here..Most of the activity is not from residents but others that come here

This area could maybe use an outhouse, two evenings ago while going down main st. towards the bridge on the left side of the walk way a man was standing there peeing in plain sight. It was 5:30 pm. Where do you go from there?

Unresolved illegal drug activity leads to bigger problems. Look at Mexico for what can happen. Get tough with crime! It could be your kid that gets hooked. It could be you or your family member that is victimized by the crackhead.

Middletown has a bad reputation among people who don't realize there's so much more to the town than the North End. It's hard to believe that drug activity cannot be curtailed or actually eliminated in this relatively small area where blatant transactions occur. The fact that the town appears to go easy on offenders is so appealing to both sellers and users of drugs. What a shame.

It is getting worse, not better. C'mon guys, let's patrol this area better! It should be east because it's done so openly. Hand-shake my a**, thats a dealing. Are all the eye exams up to date or what, ya gotta be blind not to see it.

I live in a different part of Middletown and every time I travel to Main St., I too wonder why this outward negative activity is given a blind eye. Payoffs??

The area is very nice and business minded individuals, like myself, may want to do business downtown. I will not open any business nor purchase any property in the Main St., area.

This town could be so much more. We elected these lazy self indulgent politicians so we can only blame ourselves.

Suggestions/Solution?: Protest/Petitions/Txting Police/Jamming town hall phone lines with complaints every day.

I grew up in Torrington, a "city" very similar to Middletown. It has the large population but none of the commerce to support it. It also has an abundance of mental health clinics and juvenile delinquency agencies among other state run facilities. These areas do not get the funding that say Hartford or Bridgeport get to support a large police foce and criminals are fully aware of this. Therefore they migrate to these areas knowing that they can conduct illegal business with little interaction because the police have too much on their plates already. It's ridiculous and disappointing. So basically we are catering to a buch of people that are degrading what we all have worked hard to prevent.

I agree 100%. The judges in Middletown also need to put harder consequences on these thugs.

......it makes you wonder if there is a hidden agenda as to why these people are ALLOWED to continue their activity in such a way that it almost appears as if they are on display...I drive by there frequently and, again, notice that there are only "3" blocks that are OBVIOUS to passerbys....something is wrong with this picture....even placing just 1 police officer to walk the vicinity as a visual deterent would curb the illegal activity significantly...this is probably 1 of "many" ideas that we can offer to "at least" begin the process of cleaning up what could prove to be another scenic portion of middletown...can anyone else offer anymore suggestions???

I agree, and it's not gonna get better when they continue to get just a slap on the hand & sent back to the streets. We need stiffer penalties & harder Judges in this town.

When I was a child those houses were filled with italians and that whole side of town was beautiful and now they have either passed away or moved as they saw their neighborhood being invaded by PIGS...and they keep breading spawns of themselves in turn bringing down our whole town....no humane solution

Maybe there's not a total solution but we can cut it down greatly if people would open their mouths about the wrong-doings they see and not just turn the other cheek. The cops just can't be everywhere & depend on reportings from citizens. The sad part is that they are starting to use parking lots & dead-end streets in the good neighborhoods to do their dealings, like price-choppers parking lot & gas stations. If you tell the cops it's annonomous, they do keep it that way.We have nothing to lose & much to gain.
