Can a car without plates be reported to the pd on the weekend and tagged? Guess they ran out of plates this weekend and backed the for sale car up to their daily driver green car. Just this weekend two cars for sale by same dealership. Can a dealership sell cars on the street ?

We would like to stop this as much as you want to see it stopped. It is not illegal to purchase salvage titled cars, and despair them. Once repaired, they must have them inspected before they can be issued a new, regular title at which time they can be legally plated. Most of the cars that we have seen out there have been legally plated to a person thereby making them legal to park on the street. If they happen to park them on the street with a for sale sign in the window it doesn't make it inherently illegal. We have no ordinance against a private owner parking a legally plated car on the street with a for sale sign on it. If we can document that they have done this 12 times in a 12 month period we can cite them for not having a dealers license when required. It helps us to understand what they are doing when you post these complaints with the info you include but we cannot use this in court as proof. So far the cars we've documented have come back to various people and addresses. The cars that we have seen in violation have been tagged, cited or towed whenever we can legally do so. We are still working on it. I hope this explanation helps you understand why it's taking so much time. I thank you for your assistance and your patience in this matter.

So the cars are normally parked at only one of two houses for years else Dollar General and using the same two phone numbers (sometimes a third) in the windows, same signs, some cars been see at both houses, any car at Dollar General was once in front of one of the two houses and all have temp plates but they are registered to many different people.

Sounds like something fishy to avoid taxes, insurance issues and dealership issues.

They still selling cars every weekend. So that's 52 weeks in a year sell one say every 2 weeks each guys selling 20 cars a year each guy. But at times they have more then one car each on streets. Also called running a business out of your home.

I feel u Phil, it's a huge investment to have a car lot rent, utilities, city licence, state license, employees, coffee machine and bills. After all this the return or profit is low.

But if u have a dozen homes and u can sell cars all around u property's this man can save lots money.

Temp plates should bee J436398 or J435398 or ending in 6. Clearing break law. You need a dealer license if you sell, offer to sell, or advertise for sale at least twelve (12) vehicles in a 12 month period. This includes off-road vehicles, snowmobiles, and mini-trucks.

Code enforcement inspector for the 4th District here! I am aware of 228 165th Street being an issue the past couple of years. We have issued citations in the past & even inspected their garage. Thanks for helping. What about 6448 Woodward. Same cars go back and forth on the weekend. They have the same owner even as 707 169th St that was reported too when researching. Appears they own about 10 houses in town

1.) 707 169th St. comes up as the Zion Holiness Church that is up for sale. Do you suspect they are using their vacant parking lot for storage since the church is up for sale?

2.) 6448 Woodward Ave. is technically the 3rd District, while I handle the 4th. I'll still try to go by when I happen to be heading by that street. Now, 228 165th St. is in my district. Like I said, I've cited that property in the past multiple times. We may have to issue a new citation this year, it seems. I'm sure HPD is able to keep tabs on both homes when I cannot.

3.) Indeed, 6448 Woodward & 228 165th St. are both owned by the same landlord. He owns at least 21 properties in Hammond. Same tenant at 6448 Woodward Ave. since at least 2012 & same tenant at 228 165th St. since at least 2016.
