The tree at 8653 Carlin was evaluated yesterday for the concern about disease. The tree is a sycamore that is alive and viable but does show signs of an anthracnose fungal infection. This is very common with sycamore trees. It can cause some deformation of branches and leaves but is generally not fatal to the tree (and not harmful to humans). Levels of activity vary with the weather, for example, during a warm, wet spring the conditions favor more fungal activity. It is always a good practice clean up and dispose of all leaves in the fall as they may harbor fungal spores. Again this tree is still alive and viable, but the condition will be monitored over future growing seasons. If you would like to learn more about sycamore anthracnose you can follow the link below and read an article from the University of Massachusetts.
