These are emergency vehicles that at times may not be able to park in a spot far away or in a garage due to the nature of the job. If an officer is needed or called away for an emergency it benefits the public safety for that officer to be able to respond in a more timely manner rather than have to wait longer for that officer to track down his or her vehicle. With that being said, all officers are aware of the parking restrictions and adhere to those restrictions when factors allow.

That is absolute nonsense, and an expression of the sort of entitlement that is creating so much distrust among police and the communities they serve.

What’s the agenda? Work slow?

My comment did NOT violate the terms of use. If the city (and the PD) is responsible, it's an actionable violation of the First Amendment and is defamatory as it casts my message and me in a false light. If it was a user or user(s) misusing the flagging system, I have no doubt that it will be addressed by SCF on Monday.

Citizens have a right to speak when city officials fail to address their concerns and seek to justify misbehavior by other government officials.

Just to restate: That cruiser was there parked like that all morning. There is no reason to believe that that cruiser being parked there had anything to do with any emergency. I've been appearing in courthouses almost every day for 20 years now. So I'm quite familiar with the nature of police officers' court-related responsibilities. I know very well that its operator was almost certainly someone assigned to work at the court, or an officer responding to a subpoena (in which case he was explicitly not going to be expected to respond to any emergency calls). A police officer not responding to an emergency is required to abide by all of the laws and ordinances that all of the rest of us must follow. That includes not parking on sidewalks, obstructing pedestrian access, and violating the rights of the disabled. Please do not try to tell the members of this community otherwise.

To be clear, I will be checking that location and reporting each and every such violation that I see until the practice, which has gone on for far too long now, ends.
