Description
There is a traffic light here when you turn right onto Goffe from Webster. The sign clearly says "No turn on Red". This makes sense, this is located very near to a local park and elementary school. Yet, many people don't seem to know or care that this is a red light and treat it instead as a stop sign or a yield sign. I have been stopped at this light many times and been honked at by other drivers who want me to run the light, or sometimes they just go around, to the point where I now stick to the right half of the lane even though this is a single lane. The signs need to be made more clear and a police presence needs to be here to discourage those who would violate this traffic light. It's only a matter of time before someone, perhaps a student at the school, gets hurt by a speeding maniac!

Narrowing the travel lane down or installing other types of traffic calming measures, so drivers have to go slowly to make their turns, would increase the visibility of other road users and improve safety.
When people are traveling fast, they have much less time to look and they are also less likely to obey laws like this.
Police enforcement would be helpful, and I wish the NHPD would provide the detailed data requested by the Safe Streets Coalition (including type of violation issued) so that neighborhoods could see what actions were being taken on a regular basis, and where.
However, it's unlikely that a cop can be stationed here 24/7, so I would move for street improvements as well. They don't have to be expensive ones - many other cities use temporary measures for several years until they can find the funding for a permanent installation.
There is no reason for speeds at this intersection to exceed 18 miles per hour.

This should go back to being a yield sign. The signal as it currently exists is defective, and the appropriate thing to do is to Stop, look, and then continue on red.
If you bring a car to this intersection and stop at the stop line, the light will never change. That's the definition of a defective signal. The light only changes if other cars show up at the other parts of the intersection, and they're the ones who actuate the signal.
The No Turn on Red sign should be taken down, and replaced with a Yield to pedestrians in crosswalk sign.
