Bus platforms along Webster Street lack adequate handrails, warning strips and bus shelter access for wheelchairs as reported in the Access Compliance Survey Report conducted by Sally Swanson Architects, Inc. in their April 4, 2008 report to the City of Alameda. What progress has the City of Alameda made in the last ten years to bring these bus stops into compliance? Is there a plan to address the deficiencies noted in the report?

Status? The City received the report ten years ago about the hazards at these platforms. All of the problems can be solved with minimal expense. Cheaper than having a disabled person fall off the platform into moving traffic.
1. Warning strips needed at platform edges, like on a BART platform.
2. Safety railings. Some have actually been removed or moved from required locations.
3. Bus shelter access for wheelchairs. -- you have to do this. There are no excuses.
The City has had ten years to read the report and follow instructions. Now, ten years later, even after repeated notifications, needed action has not been taken. This is obviously unacceptable.
