Description
newly relocated from Europe. Looked at the 8 new apt bldgs on this street: There is only one entry/exit to Alewife Brook Parkway. How do you expect 1000s of people to enter their homes when the traffic pattern is so limited?? An additional connecting road needs to be built to ease the standing traffic on Alewife Brook Pkwy.

Welcome to Alewife! Funny story - about 2-3 years ago to get permitting to build the new apartment complexes (only 3 existed at that time) there was a town hall meeting. The city determined that adding ~3000 new residents to the street WOULD NOT AFFECT traffic in any meaningful way. HAHA. They even made ridiculous graphs to "prove" their point, basically saying that residents reverse commute and dont drive at the same time as people who work/commute to that area. Dont live there if you plan on driving much (especially between 5-7PM). They are also adding more apartments in the close by vicinity, which will only further backup Alewife Brook Parkway even more. Its a much better area for subway commuters.

1) There is no process in place to bring about issues that require long term solution or interdepartmental coordinated solution. SeeClickFix is the only available centralized platform to report issues but as Traffic - SM (Engineering) stated, this platform is intended for maintenance items, not overarching feedback. Hopefully the newly created CRM Manager can implement a new customer relationship management solution that can address the long term issues.
2) There is on-going Envision Cambridge to formulate Master Plan yet developments are going up all over the place without clear vision or coordinated effort to mitigate problems arising from too rapid development.
3) Time after time, each developer presents traffic studies that many times contradicts what neighboring residents experience every day. I have heard in many Planning Board hearings that the traffic situation is bad in that neighborhood but the new development will not make it any worse, not taking into account of impact of all the other development going on in that neighborhood.
4) Traffic mitigation plans should not just address pedestrian/bike traffic. They must be done in conjunction with automobile traffic improvement measures. On a more wider scale, City has to work with MBTA to improve bus and T services.
For these and many other related reasons, please keep this open
