Another request at this same intersection... I noticed today that there are 2 green lights for the two lanes (coming from Route 128), so one light COULD be designated for the left-turn people only and the other a straight-ahead/right light. However, the left-hand light is not timed differently... so what's happening is that there's a queue waiting to turn left onto Gay. When the light turns red, they are in the intersection (once it was me!) and finally get to take a left. This is very problematic when the crossing light comes on at the same time as the red light (which is how it is now)... Our son is visually impaired and has almost gotten hit three different times because he started crossing (across Gay going towards the Town Hall) when the "beeps" started and the left-hand turner still went right through. If there could be a delay so that the left-hand turns could get through BEFORE the crossing signal starts, it would help so much! I know we talked with someone many years ago (when our son was going to Middle School and walking) and was told it was possible but never done. Here's hoping....

Thank you for using SeeClickFix to contact the Town of Westwood. These lights were recently adjusted to allow more traffic flow during peak hours. We will revisit to allow for more pedestrian timing.

Not sure this is "closed" -- as it seems you are "revisiting" the issue, not fixing it. There are a lot of school "walkers" who are trying to cross at this light, never mind the many others who are walking to the Post Office, bank, etc.

Also, my second suggestion was not addressed -- please change the timing on the left-hand light (from High, turning left onto Gay Street) to allow for traffic in the intersection to make it onto Gay Street before the pedestrian crossing and/or cross-traffic lights trigger. Both lights are the same, but are there to allow for different timing, I'm assuming. I've seen many cars in the intersection continuing to take a left when the crossing chirps have started; I've seen walkers crossing (myself and my visually impaired son, included) who are almost hit by one of these cars. Use the timing of that light to take care of this.

As I mentioned, my son was almost hit twice (is visually impaired and waits for the chirps -- when the cars are still going through). I was also almost hit once by a car turning onto Gay Street DURING the walk light. There are two lights; use them differently/well to make the intersection safer.

I crossed across Gay Street tonight -- at 6:45 p.m. and it took THREE cycles (two High Street -- long!) cycles and one Gay Street cycle -- before the pedestrian light allowed me to cross....

We will have our traffic survey engineering company look into this.

I appreciate whatever you can do... help the drivers AND the pedestrians...

This has been looked at several times by out Engineering contractor. All adjustments have been made.
