I'm writing to request a traffic lighting change to help with more efficient traffic flow. On the intersection of Main & Winter street there is a set of traffic lights. The flow from the outside streets goes as follows:
1) Green: Main Street; Red: Forest Street; Red: Winter Street
2) Green: Winter Street; Red: Main Street; Red: Forest Street
3) Green: Forest Street; Red: Main Street; Red: Winter Street
Since there is a significant amount of traffic that occurs on Main Street, I'm writing to request that there be a slight delay when the light is green for Main Street (on the side coming from Melrose towards Malden). This will allow vehicles on Main Street (heading towards Melrose) to make a left turn onto Winter Street since there is no protected turn light signal located on this corner. This will significantly decrease congestion during rush hour since many vehicles head towards Oak Grove station during that time. Currently, the traffic is typically so congested that only 1 or 2 cars have time to turn before the light changes. When traffic is quite condensed, no cars can make the left turn.
