I think they close early on Friday

Come on mate, you have been a very vocal advocate on SCF and should kbow that city closes early on Fridays. It has been this way for many years. I can only assume that is to make up for the fact the there is one day a week that it remains open into the early evening.

It's not closing early. It was closed all day. Other residents raised the issue earlier this morning when they tried to contact the city with a concern related to the lack of a detail at a construction site on their street. So I checked for myself by phone, and sure enough, City Hall was closed. That was mid-morning BTW. I then checked the home page of the website to see if anything was posted there as it seemed reasonable to think that the city would notify people. But I don't see anything up there. There is nothing on the city's calendar either. No doubt, quite a few people today have had business to do with City Hall but have been unable to do so, without advance notice. So it's not only wasteful, it's discorteous to residents and disrespectful of their time. No governmental entity should just shut down on a regular business day, especially without notice, unless it's an emergency. Period.

The city posted on both their website, Facebook and Twitter that it was closed today. If I remember correctly they were closed the Friday before labor last year too. My guess is like many employers they are balancing business needs with employee needs. Since most area schools are closed today, probably a lot of work family balance issues and they were only open until 12 any way so what’s 4. Not like the police and fire are closed and on holiday closing notice on website it says who to contact for urgent issues and what services are and aren’t affected by the closing. Kind of ironic complaining about an employer closing an extra day in honor of Labor Day.

I hope they enjoyed their day off with all they have to deal with on a regular basis.
