Description

Pedestrian crossing is very dangerous in low light. In the attached photo you can barely see the teen on the bike who is waiting for the light to change and for himself to get the walk signal from the PED. when I took the photo I had to lean forward in my vehicle as my A pillar blocked him from my view. as for the truck in front of me he would have had to look 90degs to his left to see the teen on the bike.
I would be very easy to make the crossing a Protected PED. This would stop all traffic lanes while giving the "WALK" signal to the PED allowing Pedestrians to safely cross the street without vehicles trying to turn left on to MLK. After the PED clears then the standard ring can continue as normal.
Doing this will make a dangerous PED crossing safe since the pole on the corner hides pedestrians for cars turning on to 70th and from cars turning left onto MLK. Even though the intersection is small the simplest Signal controller should be able to handle adding a Protected PED phase.
So this could be done with little cost and may even save a life.
