I totally understand that the person whose locked garage was violated by vagrants would be upset. But can we have some clarification here? How was see/click/fix used to direct the potential squatters to that particular location? What I usually see here are reports from people who have observed squatters in their neighborhood and are trying to notify authorities.

Sure, can absolutely speak to that question. When an address is posted, say for Weeds or Abandoned Home, that address is available publicly. If an individual decides to harass a family or person, all they really have to do is file an anonymous SeeClickFix and the public is alerted, various agencies are alerted, and the poor innocent victim is targeted. It is an effective tool for harassment if that is the intention. In most cases this then defrauds City Agencies who are required to follow up on SeeClickFix reports. However as I read this it appears that the homeowner ended up harassed, again. It is highly inappropriate to have a tool that lends itself to being used for harassment purposes. Since everyone uses an alias, why do we even have an anonymous reporting function?

That is rediculous. If someone makes a report about your propery, they usually attach pictures of the offense.
IF someone attempted to “squat” in your garage, it’s probably because the property seems in a blighted and or abandoned
Condition. Maybe you’d want to FIX UP THE PROPERTY, then it could NEVER be mistaken by any vagrants as a property
eligible for squatting. Clean up the property so it reflects that fact that its’ OCCUPIED. Interesting that you had a conversation
with someone attempting to commit a crime against you and your property?

Interesting that you should post anonymously, complaining of other people posting anonymously. The reality is: if your property was not in violation of any city codes. The people at city hall would take a look and go away. If however, there is a violation of city codes, then it’s mot harassment, it’s just a neighbor wanting you to clean any blight that might be bringing the neighborhood down.

When people make a report it should always have a picture to show proof. I always post with a picture showing what I am reporting with the house address.

Surely, if a report is made on SeeClickFix AND is handled promptly, either by the owner, or by a city agency, then there is no longer a cause for offense, or for attractiveness to vagrants or other criminals.

It seems that problems with a property can be exacerbated by a SeeClickFixed posting only if city agencies fail to investigate, or fail to inform, encourage or enforce the owner to perform necessary repairs.

Don't blame SeeClickFix for the inaction of uncaring landlords, or unresponsive city agencies.

Sounds to me like the message was that SeeClickFix was being used by individuals with the intent for harassment. Thought the author was pretty clear. Can see how that would occur and have had it happen to me. Not everyone who writes a SeeClickFix is doing it with integrity. The anonymous report function would serve to hide individuals who used it for nefarious purposes.

It hasn’t happened to me but I’ve seen anonymous posts that I know are disingenuous, misleading or outright false, They blame and lie on specific neighbors or residents because they don’t don’t particularly like them. Lots of profiling and slanderous posts on SCF done by cowards under the cover of “anonymous”. Including false reports of crimes.

Nothing cowardly about posting anonymous, more like being smart because of crazy hateful misguided people.
