Thank you for your feedback on the changes to the intersection of the S. Seventh St and W. Stadium Blvd. In order to ensure the safety of all users of the corridor we will proceed with various engineering, education, and enforcement efforts to encourage proper behavior, especially along the northbound approach at Seventh and Stadium. We are aware that motorists are encroaching into the buffer (the double white line with the “chevron” markings in the middle). This creates a conflict with bicyclists in the bike lane as well as motorists who are making the turn legally from the “through/right” lane. Additional signage and barriers will be placed to make it clear that motorists should not be making a turn from this buffer. The Police Department has also be informed of the situation.
We have heard suggestions to restore the intersection to the previous configuration (a dedicated left turn lane, through lane, and right turn lane). Analysis was done prior to implementation which showed that the intersection would operate acceptably with this new configuration. Please understand that other construction in the area, in particular the resurfacing project on Scio Church and the utility work on Pauline, is adding pressure on this intersection, especially the northbound and eastbound approaches. We ask you to remain patient as these projects come to a close and traffic around Pioneer High School begins to normalize.
In the meantime, please allow for added travel time when passing through this intersection. Most importantly, please observe the rules of the road to ensure the safety of yourself and those other roadway users around you.
