Yes. Crosswalk, slower speeds, and better visability are needed

The police have advise me that 4th Street is part of their regular patrols. I will again make them aware of these concerns.

We will also review the cause of this recent crash and sight lines and report our findings here once completed.

There have been 3 crashes since 2013 involving a westbound motorists failing to yield the right-of-way and being hit by a northbound vehicle. Sight lines for westbound motorists is an issue, because of the on-street parking on the south side of the intersection blocking the view of northbound traffic. Parking is within the Florida Department of Transportation right-of-way and not within the jurisdiction of the City.

Issue has been forwarded to the attention of FDOT for review.

Using the history of crashes is not really an absolute measure of the hazard caused by the parking proximity to the corner. Close calls are some things that aren't measured or recorded. Just this past Sunday, I personally was heading north on 4th St to see what became of the damage and ironically as I approached 12th Ave, a black car that had inched out, pulled out and made a left turn in front of me, and without exaggeration - if I had not slowed down, I would have hit the car broadside. Sure - this type of thing happens every day all over town, but this is a location that's worse than normal. I think the City (Michael Frederick) gets that, but I somehow got the impression that the situation was being downplayed with the crash history being mentioned.

I was honestly unsure what the City's Parking Management statement (http://www.stpete.org/transportation/parking_management/index.php) meant with -

"This team is responsible for parking management through ...... ; investigate and improve safety and accessibility needs as identified through public contact, staff studies and committee involvement"

Can't this thread be left open until the DOT responds back to the City? It sounds like the City and DOT have to work together on downtown parking safety if what I read about the Parking Management's area of responsibility is correct. If this is closed, then tracking any of the "fix" part of seeclickfix would be lost ... thanks

The mention of crashes was not meant to represent a complete and full analysis, just stated the facts. FDOT who has jurisdiction will have the final say in what happens, after their review and analysis. The City's Parking Management Division is only responsible for on-street parking and parking lots and garages in the "Downtown" (Between 5th Avenue N and South and east of 16th Street). My division is responsible for traffic safety regardless of location and I have no problem leaving this case open until I hear back from FDOT. I will post their response once received.

Oh, well that explains that. I guess I assumed that downtown had expanded beyond that area the past several years.

FDOT has posted No Parking restriction and is planning for deconstruction of the parking areas in the future.
