Description

I am a resident of 152 Spring Place Way. Every day I walk the Pier Trail to Gingerville Creek (AACounty property). Last Thursday I came upon a work crew at the entrance to the trail, with a large container filled with tens of gallons of chemical herbicide (teal-green in color, like glyphosate (round-up), which is banned in Montgomery County). I spoke with the supervisor of the crew, informing him that there are laws in Maryland governing the use of herbicides by public waterways. He assured me they would not spray by the water (and picnic areas), and subsequently spoke with his crew in Spanish. Imagine my horror upon returning, several hours later, to discover not only that they sprayed - voluminous ammounts - all over where they had cut down a bamboo grove, but all around the picnic tables (where children and families come), by the canoe/kayak berthing structure (and under it), along the trail where they had dribbled chemicals, around the dock, and worst of all, right near the water, and the small creek which spills into the river, copious ammounts of chemical. We live here! Our children play, and picnic, by the water. People walk their pets, and every single person I've met - from this community - is appalled. One old lady wouldn't even take her dogs down there because of this. Is this how you treat Our Earth, and water? All that chemical runs off - into the river, into the water table, it leaches down into the ground, and poisons the habitat for so much life. Are you Conscious of this? I made a videotape (22 minutes) which I can send you, showing the desecration. I've tried to attach it here (with no success). I will forward it to you. I hope, in the Name of God, you respond.
