Some of us like the change - the traffic on 9th Street has gotten out of control-cars going way too fast to the point that you can barely get across the street and very dangerous for people and people on bikes

Spitts, wouldn't that be a speeding issue for the police to address?

I see the post on Darden Rice. Does anyone know which other city council members voted for this? And who can we ask which of those city council members have now parked their cars and now ride their bicycles on MLK instead???

Accidents will happen and people will be hurt. Crosswalks would have been a better answer.

I drive to and from work every day from 30th Ave N along MLK to Bayfront hospital. My 7 minute commute has more than doubled which for such a short distance is ridiculous. I have already had 2 close calls with potential accidents. I had a car almost hit me head on as it turned onto MLK at 4th Ave S as they did not know which lane to go to!
Drivers are confused and more so, frustrated. The single lane was sooooooooooooooo not necessary and serves no purpose. The bike lane was not a wise decision on a road so heavy with traffic. I hope that whoever made this decision will also take responsibility when the accidents happen. I have never seen anything so ridiculous and UNSAFE!
Our city leadership is clueless as to the real needs of the city and I am embarrassed to say that I voted for this mayor the first time term but certainly not the 2nd term.

Ridiculous is being kind. Now with the constant uninterrupted stream of traffic left turns across traffic or left turns from side streets into traffic are a crap shoot worthy of Vegas. Left turns westbound onto 9th Ave or 30th Ave can now take multiple light cycles with no dedicated turn arrows present.
Speeding wasn't and isn't an issue on this street more than any other in the city, it's not even in the wheelhouse, and if it was it's an enforcement issue not a "let's cram everyone into one lane" solution.

Contact the Mayor office, Tampa Tribune , and Channel 8 news Rod Carter at which I made contact with. Also city counsel .this is an issues that needs to be address.

Joe, agree completely. Let's use our energy to fight this in the proper channels. If we as a community are upset enough to post then let's contact the Mayor's office, Trib, Chan8, FB, etc. I know a "petition" was done prior to approving this on change.org so why can't we start a petition also to show how many people are upset & concerned that this was a poor decision. The City will say they had meetings and allowed for public comment but if you went to the meetings & watched the presentations by the City planners, they were not interested in true public feedback because they were going to do this no matter what the public says. The City gets federal funds to re-plan streets with more emphasis on bicycles (as this new plan has nothing to do with making the road safer for pedestrians although they say it does) than cars even though the City studies show there are 10K cars that use this stretch of MLK each direction, each day. When traffic diverts through the adjacent neighborhoods there will be safety issues also. The bicycle paths could have been routed though the neighborhoods where it would be safer and more efficient for all traffic. The City acknowledged this idea but said this new plan is better. Again, because if they routed bicycles through the neighborhoods, like on 12th N & 14th St N, where the are one-way streets with 25 mph speed limits it would be safer for all but the City would not get their Federal cheese to make our roads how Wash DC wants them not our citizens that live & work here want them. Lastly, I driver this corridor N & S about 6 times per day and I still see the same amount of people that are speeding at 45 mph. The City claims the avg speed prior to resurfacing was 46 mph. OK, then that is a SPPD issue to enforce speed limits.
I apologize for rambling but this just does not make sense. I am reaching out to as many people as I can to get this changed.
By the way, the City will archive this post as duplicative" and refererence another issue number but you can't find that other issue number on See Click Fix and when they archive the post no more comments can be made. Hmmmm.

This change is going to happen on 30th Ave and it will not be changed. There have been neighborhood meetings going on for over a year plus before the change happened the city had been meeting with some of the business leaders on MLK and 7th Ave N and changes were made to meet some of their concerns. Additionally there are going to be crosswalks installed so that people can safely cross MLK (not sure when that is going to happen) This repavement plan has been in the works for over a year so it was not unexpected. The majority of the neighborhoods affected by this change were in favor of it.

The entire city council supported this but it is in Darden Rice's district and she made a blind statement about support. Ed M. my homes council member supported it too and he won't get my support for anything in the future.
The mayor said in a Times interview that he puts capable administrators in charge but not with streets. This is the department that jerrymandered parking meters all over the city to make it confusing and create more tickets; this is the administrator that ordered new parking level signs for the south core parking garage and numbered the floors upside down like they were below the ground- pure stupidity that resulted in new signs at a great expense being made.
