This has always been a bad intersection. Especially the cars coming down the hill which pick up speed.

That area as well as Second and Newark need blinking light pedestrian crossing signs.

Also, please take a look at the intersection of Second and Newark (crosswalk over Newark), This is also a very busy and dangerous area and a blinking light crossing sign would help. Thanks!

We will conduct a preliminary traffic assessment to determine what type of traffic control is warranted at this intersection. The preliminary assessment will also help identify if a more in-depth study is required. Please allow 3-4 weeks for the preliminary study to be completed. It should also be noted that as part of Vision Zero, the Traffic Division is tasked with developing a comprehesive traffic calming program, which would be petition based, and would encompass a wider menu of traffic calming options like raised intersections and crosswalks, curb extensions, mini roundabouts, and other treatments permissible on residential streets. This program is currently being drafted, but once complete constituents will be able to submit petitions for traffic calming measures other than speed humps. Please contact your Coucilperson for updates on that program.

Agreed that this intersection (Newark & 6th st & Division St) needs traffic calming and stronger protections for pedestrians / cyclists. There was a crash there yesterday (see attached pic of immediate aftermath) while kids were waiting for the bus a few yards away. It's a mess during rush hours twice daily, and cars go unsafe speeds at other times.

Thank you for your continued patience. After coordinating with the Ward E Councilman's office, it has been determined that enhanced signage at the intersections of Newark Avenue & 6th Street and Newark Avenue & 5th Street is more suitable than this location and those improvements will be pursued.
