Yup once again I see these issues myself. As instructed last time by a post here, I was told to call 911. I called three times last week for this issue, and was I was told "we're real busy right now". So please do not tell me to call 911 as they are unable to assist. It is pointless to call. I refuse to waist my time calling CPD when they do nothing. We want Chief Kyes to address this issue, we are very tired of this and nothing is done.

I've lived on this street for 10 years now and I have never seen it this bad and this balantly obvious. We've had drug dealers on our street before but these men are just not descreet about it at all. Which is why I fail to see why Chelsea Police and local courts cannot keep these people off my streets.

I also agree they are hassling people also. I've been leaving at 545am every morning and they are there and have called me out for crossing the street. I come home at 4pm and they are still there. A few times it was < 50 degrees out, and they were the only ones loitering on our street so they are up to no good.

Hi, I'd like to know why my content is being blocked.

I too have seen this issue on my street and I want the city to address this issue. I've called an we were told "We're too busy". So telling us to call that is not an answer. We need action done. Its so obvious they are up something.

I never go down that street (even drive down) after nightfall, and I’m only 2 blocks away. As you know we sadly fall within District 6, where crime is the highest, home ownership the lowest, and the need the greatest. Quite obvious City Hall is making us a buffer zone in District 6 with crime/industry and letting the chips fall way they may.

It is very disturbing and heartbreaking to hear pleas of help from homeowners who are plagued by constant illegal activity in their areas. I hope the authorities have the resources to bring the crime rate down to minimum levels in these crime plagued areas.

We do not want our loyal Chelsea residents to move away, because what will be left. It would be enlightening to know if theses people are repeat offenders that lenient judges release. I keep recommending cameras. Don't approach these people. BE SAFE!

I agree. As someone who has lived on this street for 10 and just bought the unit I live in in June, I am starting to question that decision due to the recent activity. It has never been this bad, or blatant.

And yes because of recent activity, my building and our long term resident neighbors are having cameras installed. It is sad that we have to do this, as I never felt the need before.

But something has to be done. More so than what is being done now. Again, we've had this issue before but never this obvious.

And yes, don't approach them. They already know we are all watching them and they cat call me when I walk by now. They know they are doing something terribly wrong.

Who is the district council? Sleeping? Or lives over the bridge? If calling 911 or local Police is not getting response you would expect, escalate it.

You need to get some of your neighbors together and have them too call the police when you see all those low life rats.
Call at the same time, police will come.
We had the same problem a few years ago in cottage and that’s what we did. If they see that the police comes every time that are there, they will go away. You need to be persistent.

Thanks for everyone acknowledging this to be true. I recently bought my apartment a year ago aswell and am completely regretting it after this new influx of obvious gang related activity on this street in particular. This is going on every night from around midnight until after sunrise, all the while the police are parked all over the city in parking lots listening to music and watching their phones doing nothing not patrolling or doing their job at all. I see it every night. To be told they’re busy in a city this small is absolutely rediculous. Who do you turn to to have this problem fixed not only with the city crime rate but with the complete lack of attention paid to it by the city police? Do we turn to state police next? Should we go to state representatives and see if they would at least acknowledge the problem? It’s gotten out of hand and we need the help of law enforcement who care about its residents

Calling the news station and trying to get a story on this sounds like a good idea to me. Nobody else is taking a serious look at the problem maybe some media coverage would change their attitudes. This is clearly in a school zone and it’s becoming endemic of this area

If you see something say something. Please call 911 or 617-466-4662 which is a non emergency number. If a dispatcher tells you that the police are too busy to respond then please provide us with the name of the dispatcher and time that you called. This information is being passed on to the Officers in charge and detective bureau.

You have to be persistent is the key. I had two members of MS-13 living in my building and I had to work closely with the Police daily to get them out. I regretted my purchase everyday for a long time, until the gang finally moved on from my property and sadly I noticed several of them moved from my area on Hawthorne to Shurtleff. Trust me, I though many times of cutting my losses and getting out, but once we got MS-13 off my block, it got better. I also want to remind you that you do live in District 6 which means you are not a priority at City Hall, so the only way to change that is to start banging on Tom's door and tell him that there is nothing to be politically gained from living in a war zone.

I ran against District 6’s councilor in the last city election in 2017. Due to being overworked I had no other choice than to drop out before the election. I am debating on rerunning again next year due to the lack of resolution on this issue and another issue that he voted for that I disagree with (as it was a self serving vote on his part since he benefits from that vote several times due to the number of properties he owns on his street (this was the water bill increase). So I will try to as civil as possible.

Councilor Recupero has had his seat for well over a decade. He has won due to just sheer fact that he has run unopposed. So by default he wins. I won’t comment too much on what he is done, but “ineffective” and “self serving” come to mind. He also lives on a quiet stretch of Essex where little crime happens but while I was canvassing this issue kept coming up and many people I spoke with complained about his lack of aggressiveness with this issue.

As far as what is next.. I am not sure what to do next. CPD has district crime meetings over a month. I’ve never been but it may be time to start to go so we can have a voice.

The other thing we can do is try to write letters and try to get on the agenda for the city council meeting and start demand answers.

Writing state reps is the third thing we can do. But start with one and two first.

Don’t get me started on our useless councilor. I’ve lived in Chelsea 3 years and have only seen this guy twice. Each of those times was when he was canvassing. Someone definitely needs to oppose him because he’s ineffective. I came of age in the 90s and what happening on this block reminds me of that time. No one should have to live like this.

Ugh spoke too soon, someone just stabbed on my street #Hawthorne. I knew I jinxed myself. Where are you Tom and Giovanni?!!

I also cans of age in the 90s and this is Definatly that type of atmosphere where nobody likes the cops and there’s gang activity at all points of the city. And a stabbing one st over same day as this post says something I believe!!

I have called the non emergency tip line and it’s just an answering machine for you to complain and leave a non responsive message too.
I hope this issue gets some attention as I’ve lived In This area for 3 decades now and this is the worst it’s been since the mid to late 90’s without a doubt. Seems like it’s ms-13 or some affiliated local gang establishing a territory or being hired to sell in one controlled by a local one already, and quite obvious the police take a blind eye to it on a daily and NIGHTLY basis. This whole area needs police around day and night patrolling, not just Parked enjoying their cell phone and laptop entertainment. If anyone pays attention that’s what they do all day & every day. This city needs police who care for the residents here not their junkie detainment quota.

Yup another attempted murder in our area tonight. Clearly this is a serious problem and not resolved to the least bit.

A lot of professionals are buying properties here in Chelsea. You can make a difference, if you have the energy to run for city council, i urge you to do it. You will change this pattern. The city council is stale today with one active councilor.
It looks like the faith in the Police department is dead.

Once again at 1230 am junkies and gang members roaming all up and down shurtleff, actually saw police drive by and take no interest. Sad to see keep getting worse with children and elderly who live nearby

I voiced many of these concerns last night at the City Council meeting and I am hoping that our City Manager is challenged to workout these safety issues in our District before one of us is hurt/killed. I was also very disturbed to find out from a source close to the Police that when CPD was asked to do uniformed patrols on Shurtleff and Hawthorne Street in particular, they requested these only be done on their Overtime hours (almost like a hazard pay). I am going to continue to follow up on these items with the City Manager as well as do additional investigation as to what is going on between City Hall and CPD.

If we do not see changes within the next couple weeks, I suggest we organization and contact several of the local news stations.

Overtime police patrols seem temporary and very expensive.
Perhaps Cooperative patrols with state and federal authorities involved might be a better use of taxpayer money. You have to hope that the court system will give the support needed to help resolve the problem.

That is complete and utter assanine the city police could even ask for overtime pay for something like that, who are they to suggest when and for how much money they will patrol and keep crime down? I believe this is a story Wich should get some news coverage if these are facts. Truth is this area is getting worse day by day. Residents especially the large number of elementary school children present and elderly whom stems local churches shouldn’t need to deal with this getting worse daily.

I hope someone can do story on here. Crime getting worse every night. I can’t walk my dog after 10 anymore or let my daughter anywhere out of my sight even in the day around this neighborhood. Lately aspecially so even with the cold weather they are still here at night. When will police help people on districts 6??

Unfortunately, at this time it's law enforcement that should be walking their dogs down these streets at the same times you feel threatened on a daily basis. I doubt if they will respond to such a sensible, pro active, crime preventitive request.

I think we give the City Manager as well as the CPD time to respond on the streets. It was made clear last night at the City Council meeting that what was happening in District 6 was unacceptable as well as disturbing. If we start seeing uniformed patrols out on our streets as well as police vehicles patrolling past sundown regularly, then we know a difference has been made.

Let's give Tom A. and Chief Keyes a couple of weeks to see if they make an effort on the streets and if not, then we elevate it to local news stations as well as state level. It's essential that this effort is visible to us residents, not just lip service.

Next warm nite gonna go down to Sector 1 and do my own observations after midnite. I'll determine any 'real' issues with an OPEN mind; not being always negative when teenagers hanging out.
