DOT completed their analysis and found that left turning vehicles were able to find adequate gaps in the opposing traffic stream to turn left without conflict, with some vehicles turning during the clearance (amber) interval.
In addition, after considering the intersection’s crash history and existing left turn volumes, we have determined that the current signal timings are the most ideal to effectively and safely accommodate the left turn demand. Any additional green time allocated to left turn signals would reduce the efficiency of the intersection and increase delays to the other approaches and pedestrian crossings at this intersection. Therefore, it is their judgment that the existing signal timings are the most effective from both an operational and safety standpoint.
