Description
The crosswalks at Beakes and N 4th Avenue used to be hazardous because after clearing the flashing light at N 5th, drivers along Beakes sped through N 4th in their rush to get to the intersection at N Main - seriously imperiling pedestrians, both residents and nonresidents such as Farmer's Market patrons. This situation was recently ameliorated by the addition of signs between lanes signaling vehicles to stop when someone was entering or in the crosswalk, which had a significant impact in calling attention to pedestrians and calming traffic overall. Now the signs have been removed. Please restore these signs as soon as possible.

My understanding is that these "gateway treatment" in-lane signs are removed seasonally for snow clearing.
I believe as part of the 5th Avenue/Detroit St project there will be a reconfiguration of the Beakes/5th intersection intended to slow down turns on to 5th but I'd agree that Beakes & 4th and Beakes/Kingsley/N Main would benefit from considering redesigns to make pedestrian crossings safer.
