The City has been working with the Florida Department of Transportation, since this intersection is under thier jurisdiction, and we finally have their approval to have a full traffic control signal installed. This will have approproiate timing to allow all exit ramp left-turns in the peak hours without the need to make a right/ U-turn. This approach will cost the same amount as constructing the median you suggested, and have a better overall result. Work is underway to design and construction will start next spring.

Thank you for the response but I can already foresee the problem becoming far worse with a light. The same people that can’t bother to wait their turn at a stop sign are certainly not going to wait at a light. As long as they have the ability to turn in front of others or u-turn in the middle of 31st St S the problem is going to persist. A barrier, median or even the plastic poles would solve the issue without creating further delays and back-ups on 31st St S and the exit ramp that a light will incur. The problem is not with the flow of traffic, it is with impatient inconsiderate people. I hope you will reconsider and take away the opportunity for these maneuvers to occur.

We do noy forsee this issue, as the ramp in the peak periods has the major vehicle volume, it will be given the majority of the signal time and the queue should clear without the need to conduct a right/ U-turn.
