I’ve already ID’d the owners of these 4 illegal vehicles on First St, so it would be colossally stupid for them to do anything about this post—except to register these vehicles like they’re supposed to do…

Actually Frank DeRookie ..the HILL loves Christopher Schaefer and residents like him that take the time and the risk to make their neighborhood a better place. What the Hill does not like is illegal activity. If folks don't want to do the right thing on their own, then we let the NHPD or other authorities convince them. This thing about calling folks rats who are doing the right thing has gotten old!

good job chris this problem wont go away these folks that own these cars get tickets then i watch them throw them on the ground as if to say screw you im not paying anyway.i think you should run for mayor you have my and my familys votes for sure and we are not rats we are folks who dont want our area to become a ghetto.

. Elm City Wrecking on Middletown Ave pays $125 for junked vehicles. That’s $625 the city could get for the 5 illegal vehicles I’ve reported on First Street alone.

@Chris - Last i heard a vehicle that has been left for dead , abandoned, unregistered and sticker-ed by the PD will be towed to a tow companies lot , there it will sit for 30 days giving the owner time to retrieve it ( and pay towing fee, storage fee by the day and up to 30 days, any outstanding tickets will have to be paid, a valid insurance card must be provided along with valid registration , at time an owner can pay the two and fees AND pay to have an unregistered car towed to an off street or private lot)..Usually the vehicle is left and then the Towing Co. gets the title and off to the junkyard or if it's worth something it goes to an auction, Tow gets the money

we have seen this all before the officer comes puts tickets on the vehicles in question and nothing happens the city of new haven traffic enforcment says its a police issure so i want to know when the officer is putting tickets on these cars and sees that they have no plates why doesnt he-she call the police and i know what the answer will be oh thats not our job.what a shame so much time and money wasted on the few folks in our area who have no concern or respect for other people shame on you and you know who you are because i know.

Pursuant to the 5 requests generated last Friday we have investigating this concern. The SCF category of ?Parking Violation/Abandoned Auto? is monitored by the Department of Transportation, Traffic, & Parking. Our enforcement purview does not extend beyond parking violations and our staff is not able to investigate or enforce registration issues. As a result, we investigated all of the vehicles in question, issued citations to all found in violation of the city?s parking ordinance, and identified that these vehicles belong to residents of this block. As we are unable to enforce registration violations we are forwarding this concern to the New Haven Police tow desk. For future concerns, please contact the NHPD directly via the non-emergency line at (203)946-6316. Thank you.

When you see a vehicle with out of states plates that has not moved for several days, you can and should call NHPD to report what could possibly be a stolen vehicle that was abandoned on your street. Give a full description of the vehicle, its location and the date when you first saw it. NHPD will send a patrol out and they will run the plates. If you are able, ask that the officer call you when they arrive. If it comes up as not-reported stolen, advise the officer that the vehicle has not moved for # days. He will not be able to ticket it then but ask that he make a report on it and ask for a report/case#. Ask how long does it have to sit unmoved before it can be ticketed. On that day, call NHPD again, advise the situation, that you had an officer come out on such-and-such date, and the vehicle is still unmoved, and that you want it cited. It will only get one ticket per day. Call every day that it sits and get the case #'s. Let the tickets rack up. Eventually it will be towed for unpaid parking tickets.

Also, notify your district manager (Lt. Minardi) and follow up with him
