hi SC i'm on niles rd but i haven't witnessed this, could it be your house's pipes or do you have near (next door or almost) neighbors who also have this? does the water taste or smell strange? thank you

Thank you for your response but that is what we have been hearing. There are many folks on the Everything Randolph Facebook page reporting this and I’ve told them to open a ticket thru this. Please do not close this case out until the problem is explained and rectified.

I work in the ticketing system and we do not close ticket until the problem is rectified .

Definitely not a problem with our plumbing it’s happening sporadically throughout Randolph. Town of Randolph has acknowledged this problem, weeks ago, and said there is air in the water system.
You’re lucky!!

Please do not close this out! I am a taxpayer and I don’t appreciate you closing this out with the problem not being solved. There’s not gonna be anyway For me to track this if you close it and I really don’t have time to have to open a new one to ask for an update.

sorry you are having issues with your water. i don't feel lucky to have neighbors with problems in their water. if we had a serious question with water in our house, we would get our water tested for basic indicators like coliform (bacteria) and metals (like lead and copper). a reliable water test kit shouldn't be more than $30. if the test shows a problem, you can buy a more thorough water test like Tap Score for under $150. also, there is a cheap delicious drinking water location to the left of the wendy's in town - 30 cents/gallon, for treated spring water, bring your own bottles. sorry i don't have more help to give you.

I understand there is air in the lines, however, what about the film on top of the water? Looks almost soapy to me.

please do a water test for cheap (under $30) to get a basic idea of what you're working with, it's worth it!

18 Gerald Ave.: We are having this same light-yellow-brown water condition. It started here on Dec. 1st (Saturday). When I tried to boil some, it produced a white-ish oil-slick-looking film on the top of the water (like Shawna McMillan describes above). I've lived here 42 years drinking our tap water; this is truly unusual and I'm sure it is NOT related to our home's interior pipes, etc. Others are experiencing the exact same phenomenons. I do not believe I should personally have to invest $30. in testing my system under these circumstances; it is obviously a town-systemic problem. don't boil discolored water, you have no idea what's in there and some pathogens need 24-48 hours to boil off.

Gerald Av. is not very near Niles Rd. and is very unlikely to be the same culprit causing both areas to have discolored water. do you have a private well or town water? i ask because there seems to be hundreds of private well licenses in randolph.
also, keep in mind, if you owned a car you would normally expect to pay for gas, insurance and excise taxes, even if you had a problem with your car that was essentially someone else's responsibility, it's UNDER $30 (like around $10) for a reliable test and it might help get the ball rolling if there's additional evidence in support of your concern - which concerns me as well - i live near there (Niles Rd.) and don't want dirty water for myself or my neighbors.

i see. you know, that looks a little like hot water straight from the tap. does the water clear up if it sits still for a few minutes or does it stay cloudy after sitting still for a few minutes?
