Description
On Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at approximately 7:15 a.m. the S90 Express bus to St. George ferry stopped at Richmond Terrace and Harbor Rd. but was unable to let any passengers on as the bus was overcrowded. I was instructed to get on the back of the bus but was unable to do so as the bus was too crowded. Myself and seven other passengers were unable to get on this bus. An S40 local bus arrived approximately 10 mins. later and I was able to get on the bus. Unfortunately by the time the bus got to the Jersey St. (and Richmond Terrace) area, the bus was overcrowded and the driver would not let anyone passengers get on the bus. This occurred at two bus stops. There are not enough buses servicing the northern part of the island, particularly the s40, 90 route. During rush hours the buses are always overcrowded and therefore passengers have to wait longer for an available bus. We need more Express buses during rush hour. Many residents rely on this bus to get to the ferry to get to work or school; and due to traffic on Richmond terrace and the overcrowded buses/lack of buses many times you end up missing the ferry causing you to arrive late to your destination. Driving from mariners harbor to the ferry during rush hour takes approximately 25 mins, taking the bus during the same time is almost DOUBLE that time. This is ridiculous.

This the response from the MTA. Your Comments regarding the S40/ S90 service during the morning rush period has been forwarded to the bus operations division for review. They are aware of the that the extension of S 40/ S 90 service into the Matrix Park has impacted scheduled service causing delays and overcrowding. They are working to make schedule adjustments to mitigate the gaps in service and overcrowding.
