This house keeps getting worse and worse. Pretty much every person who has ever come to visit me at my home asks about this house. It seems highly unlikely this house is in compliance with city codes. There is no other house in the neighborhood that looks like this. It is unfair to the neighbors.

Yes, the entire neighborhood knows the case is still open as many of us have notified the city over the years. We will be taking this issue to the media. If we have to shame the city and Natalye Archibong who lives on this block, into doing something about this, we will.

We apologize for the length of time it is taking to resolve this issue. This issue has been referred to the Superior Court and we were just informed that the District Attorney has been contacted for an update. Once we obtain more details we will be sure to let you know.

This houses condition is a hazard. The cars on the street are also a hazard, especially when trucks are unloading there. It would be impossible for an emergency vehicle to pass through some days. It endangers the entire neighborhood.

Update: There will be a hearing on this matter at the City of Atlanta Municipal Court on February 28, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. in courtroom 5A.

"As you are aware, we have been working with APD Zone 6, APD Code Enforcement, and the Municipal Court for over a year regarding the obvious violations at 1533 Van Epps. Mr. Harris has been cited several times. His cases were reset several times and eventually he was convicted in Municipal Court. However, he appealed that conviction to the Fulton County Superior Court which has taken several months to get a ruling. In the meantime, I contacted the Solicitor of the Municipal Court, Raines Carter, in an effort to get a resolution. As a result, there will be a Nuisance Abatement Hearing in regards to the property located at the City of Atlanta Municipal Court on February 28, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. in courtroom 5A.

I attended the civil hearing for the nuisance citation on this property today. I am proud to say that there were 10 neighbors in total that were attendance. The judge found that there was sufficient evidence to prove that this property is indeed a nuisance, based on testimony of code enforcement and law enforcement officers. The property owner now has 30 days to clean up the property. Due to the nature of the violation, the attorney representing the City of Atlanta stated that it would be unlikely that the defendant will be able to appeal (as he has done so in the past) to delay proceedings. The judge was also quite familiar with the case as it has been brought before him previously and while he had been lenient in previous instances, he seemed unlikely to be as understanding of the situation going forward. From my understanding, the city will be sent to the property at some point to assist with the cleanup if it does not happen at the owner's direction.

Thank you to everyone who helped to keep this issue moving forward. I will continue to update as new information comes to light.

After the city got involved, the home was cleared of most of the hoarded materials, except for the many junked cars. Unfortunately, 2+ years later, the hoarding has returned with a vengeance and rivals the levels when it was initially reported here in 2019.

The home was cleared in 2019 and paid for by the city aka us, the taxpayers. He has filled up his back, side and front lawn again with junk. His driveway is full of vehicles that are filled with junk. The two Bentleys are still parked on the street and filled with junk. One holds his mailbox hanging from a side window since that is the only place the mail person can reach. There are also other vehicles parked on the street. I can only imagine what it looks like inside. He does not live there this is his business address. I don't know what the answer is. The man has a mental illness. The city had offered to pay for treatment which he rejected. It hurts my heart thinking about his neighbors.

There is now a MASSIVE pile of trash (mostly clothes and textiles) on the street that is taller than the height of a car and about as wide/long. With all of the recent rain, this is a rotting mess and I feel terrible for anyone who is trying to sell their home on this street. Not only is it incredibly unsanitary, unsightly, and a fire hazard, it has to be attracting vermin. How is this not considered illegal dumping?!

While my neighbors and I were happy to see that the pile of refuse was promptly removed, there still remains the hoarding issue, which includes masses of junk in his yard and and multiple inoperable cars stuffed to the ceiling with junk, which have been taking up space on the street for 5+ years. What is being done about the core issue of hoarding and illegal junking business being operated out of a home? I will be reporting this to both the media, as well as the health department.
